By 9:30 I was getting antsy, so my Vice President and I took my lovely golf cart and wandered the rows of rigs looking for trash. There should have been more carts, but FMCA now requires everyone to be certified in golf cart driving. It's so difficult you know!! We pretty much hit the entire fairgrounds landscape and picked up less than half a bag of garbage.
By 10:00 I was back at the rig packing up. Although my goal is to leave with less junk then when I arrived, this time I failed. The downside of being President is carrying everything the club requires, like the easy-up, the electric griddle and all those heavy photo books from 30 years ago, not to mention 6 huge tablecloths and all the ice cream paraphernalia.
Then I had to figure out my exit strategy to keep from hitting one of those steep gutters and wiping out my new windshield. At long last I was on the road, working myself into a tizzy about whether I had enough fuel or not. I asked my phone ... how many miles to Yuma. It told me 253. I don't know where it thought I was, but when I asked 30 minutes later, it said 148. I thought I could make 148.
If anyone is traveling 86S or 78E heading to Yuma, you will find a brand spanking new Love's Fuel station in Westmoreland, just north of Brawley. I pulled right in with a big smile on my face!! Not cheap by any means, but I didn't care. I had a big grin again!!
If you've been this way, you know the drive is boring. Nothing to see but the Salton Sea, so far to the left I couldn't get a single picture.
You are getting close to Yuma when you see these guys parked out in the desert dunes. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded at all. In fact, I saw very few rigs camped out.
Ahhhhh my destination. Hello Yuma!! I frantically tried to double check my map, dropping my phone on the floor. RATS!! I went with my gut and actually drove right to the Palms RV Park. I was able to retrieve my phone and text Ray Warner to see if he could possibly come help me park ... and he did!
In fact, he parked me perfectly the first time. How cool is this? Rigs are so far apart, it's like you really have your privacy. This is also a very dog friendly community, so I don't even have to worry about the puppies barking. I just LOVE it here.
I got a VIP tour of the property so I know where the laundry is. One thing I didn't get fixed was my washing machine that's giving me an error code. Laundry is on my schedule today.
This morning I'm taking a deep breath and feeling all those sore rally muscles. Then it's off to the fabric store ... what else?? Laundry can wait!
