Who Would Have Ever Thought???

Who would have ever thought I would get this old this fast.  I mean I'm seriously an antique, even though I feel like a 21 year old.  Sitting on the patio with my morning cup of joe, I was remembering things like my 21st birthday when I was sitting in the middle of the street in Denver Colorado with a beer.  I hate beer.

Out of the blue, having been rebuffed by my boyfriend of the month, my gal pal and I drove off in my 1967 GTO to Colorado ... in the winter ... without a clue.  You do dumb stuff when you're young.  We got snowed in in Laramie Wyoming.

It was okay ... we weren't alone.  We had all the State's basketball teams surrounding us during their big tournament.  We "fixed" our driver's licenses with eyeliner and hit every bar in town.  The next morning my car wouldn't start.  Frozen solid.  After a couple of calls we got a tow truck to come by and spray something in the carburetor.  It took three seconds and cost me $50.  On to Denver we went.

I got a job within three days at Jean Paddie's Secretarial Service, a business that hired young girls in short skirts.  We serviced (no not THAT kind of service) six of the businesses in the complex, doing anything and everything the offices required.  My job consisted of answering the phones and typing legal contracts.

It was pretty boring, except on weekends when my roommate and I would go to the bars looking for the millionaire we were going to marry.  Bev was an amazing pool player.  To earn a few extra bucks, we would scam the guys.  Yessirree ... a couple of real of hustlers!!  We would play terribly, lose a $10.00 game or two, then take them for $20 as Bev ran the table.  How good were we?  We owned our own pool cues and it paid the $300 monthly rent.

So it's hard to imagine we're both this old, as demonstrated by the anodized aluminum glassware which is now considered antique.  We didn't have the pitcher on the ranch, but we did have more than a dozen glasses, probably worth $1,000 nowadays.  Who would have ever thought?

On to my day, I thought maybe Foxy had left the country after all those fireworks going off, but he's still hanging around.  He looks a little worse for wear.  That nose however is working really well.  He must have smelled me on the camera, because he came over for his closeup.

Having completed the other quilt top, I'm back to this one.  This really does make me feel old.  It's going really slow.  You cannot imagine the amount of lint that comes off fabric when you sew.  It completely fills the area below the foot.  You can pay $200 to get it cleaned.  Who would have thought it would be that expensive?

SO ... Nancy just does it herself.  I took it all apart and carefully cleaned up a ridiculous amount of fluff.  Then it was time to put it back together.  It seemed easy enough, but when I began to sew again, it made the most awful gear grinding noise you can imagine.  I freaked out.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime machine and I just broke it?  NOOOOOOOOO .....

I took it apart again and replaced everything very carefully.  I sewed one little stitch at a time.  Thank the Good Lord it worked just fine!  Wow .... that was scary!!!!!  I probably won't do that again!!

It's slow going this quilt.  I figured out I'm sewing 798 pieces together to get the 192 pieces of this little rectangle for the 16 squares.  That doesn't even count all the other pieces that make up the square.  I already told the store manager NOT to let me do this again!!!!

I've only two squares to go for the main section ... but then there's the outside squares and the rows between the squares still to go.  Who would have ever thought this would be so complicated?

My surprise for today ... my coup de gras ... SOLAR IS GOING IN!!!  Who would have ever thought I would end up kicking and screaming into the "new" age.  I think it had something to do with the temperatures this next week.  I'm tired of scrimping and saving and roasting like my morning toast.  It's time to go completely against the grain and SPEND THAT MONEY!!!  After all, who would have ever thought I would live THIS long!!!  I might as well enjoy it while I'm still breathing.

    1. I can only attribute not feeling as old as I really am, to running all those years. It kept my brain and my body going, which hopefully will last a few more years. I'm aiming for 100!
