HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!

Well that was fun!!!!  Happy Fourth of July to us.  I'm not all that sure I'm glad about the 1777 celebration in Philadelphia, with a 13 gun salute to honor the colonies while the Sons of Liberty set off fireworks over Boston Common.  The current generation seems to be thumbing their nose at everyone by shooting off fireworks all month long that sound like that 13 gun salute.

What could be better than SELLING fireworks?  At least these are all safe and sane, although they work really well to start fires.  Sirens could be heard all over town.   See that really big box out front?

It's only $799.99, ON SALE for $720.00.  That's the big bazooka!  We get five of those boxes to sell.  Last year we sold all five.  So far this year we only have one left.  I just can't believe people will spend this much money that will literally go up in smoke.

Talk about price increases ... most of this stuff (obviously made in China) has gone up 50%.  How can people afford this??  Our highest sale yesterday was $1,300.00!!

Well lots of people can't.  I was rather shocked when the kid in black came in the back door and tried to grab a box.  GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE I yelled!!  "Oh, I was just looking".   YEAH RIGHT!!!  We can't sell to you anyway, you have to be 18 years old.

So of course in their best criminal style, they commandeered a homeless guy from across the street (their UNCLE) and brought him over to buy their fireworks.  It was two packages, buy one get one free, for $8.99.  No telling where they got the money from.  Ten minutes later they came back with one (the free one they said) and wanted their $8.99 back.  Sorry Charlie ..... that's not happening!!  No doubt they will go start a fire somewhere!!

That's when I discovered THIS!!  It's the latest and greatest in fireworks.  So great in fact that we sold out in ten minutes.  This is UNICORN POOP!!   You read it right.  Unicorn Poop.  If you want to see how hilarious fireworks can be, google it on the internet.  You will either laugh or cry!!!

We sold lots of the cheapo depot Morning Glories (sparklers) ... in three packs.  Buy one and get one for free for a measly $17.99.  Don't forget to add 8.75% tax on all this stuff.

Here's another of the newest things.  Seriously, I don't think anyone got out of here for under $50.  There was one very nice boy who couldn't make up his mind since they were all so expensive.  His dad only had $20 to spend.  Such a nice kid, and obviously they couldn't afford anything.  I filled up a bag, charged my card and handed it out the window.  You should have seen the smile on his face.  He thanked me profusely!  Worth every penny.

The rest of the boxes were big, with most having 26-50 "pieces".  Keep in mind that each piece only lasts about a minute.  This box was I think $399.00.

This one a wallet emptying $499.99 with one more at $599.99.  You cannot imagine how many we sold.  We appreciate people supporting the Elks Lodge, but YIKES!!!  At least some families pooled their money to have a big show for the kids.

Last year we sold out of everything by 5:00.  Keep in mind there are probably twenty of these booths around the city.  This is interesting .... every booth gets the exact same stuff and has to charge the exact same price.  There's no shopping around in fireworks.

For some weird reason, there hasn't been the usual blast every night around here.  I'm thinking they finally caught the guys who were setting off all the M-80's and starting fires.  We shall see what happens tonight.  I don't mind people having fun and celebrating, but come on ... continuing until 3:00 in the morning is a bit much, especially when they are right next door!!!

It will be smoked ribs and potato salad for me today!!  I'll let you know how it turns out!  Then it's back to the fireworks booth!!  The weather couldn't be more fabulous for selling fireworks inside a closed up hot building!!!  HAPPY FOURTH!!!

  1. About 8 pm I was out with Indy, and all the sudden I hear a 3 second hissssing, then K-BOOM! It was much bigger than a M-80, I figure it was a Block Buster (1/4 stick dynamite) and poor little Indy, who was looking through our neighbor's fence, came running up and jumped on my lap! Well, by 9:30 they were going off like it was the 4th, and she had a very, very, very hard night. The last "boom" I heard was at 4 am, yes, 4 am....what is wrong with these people??????

    1. They claim they monitor all that stuff and stop illegal fireworks, but every year there's a show behind me, bigger than at the fairgrounds.
