WOW !!!!

Feeling a little bit better about the new day, my paver crew is getting it done, if ever so slowly.  It's better to be perfect than fast I suppose.  With little to no sleep the last few nights, I'm running on caffeine only.

The good news is I love the pavers.  It's been a challenge for them since the walkway is not horizontal to the house.  It might have been an easy fix except for that big bush just behind me.
It was sewing day, but I stayed home waiting for the Owner of this business to come check out the rotten wood on the porch.  He never showed.
Lucky for me (so far anyway) I did get in touch with a Contractor from Monterey California, now living in Green Valley.  He asked I send him pictures, which I did in minutes.  His comment?
WOW!  Let me tell you, this is NOT what you want to hear from a contractor you hope is going to fix your problem.  Obviously, this has been this way for many years BEFORE I purchased the house.  It was a  L  O  N  G  fifteen minutes before he responded again that it was fixable.
I asked for a price, but haven't heard back from him.  At this point, I really don't care WHAT he charges me, I just want it fixed.  I was hoping that would happen BEFORE the pavers are complete, so they can finish up their job, but at this point I don't think that's going to happen.

I have however, made very good friends with the paver guy doing the work.  He said he can come back any time and finish up.  That was good news!!

I snuck away just long enough to have lunch with the sewing ladies who keep me sane.  On the way back to check the paving work, I got a little too close to an agave and stuck one of those lovely spikes one quarter inch up into my cuticle.  WOW!!!!  THAT HURT!!!  I finally had to take a couple of aspirin to take the edge off.

I do believe it broke off under the skin.  I tried cutting it out with a knife like we always did on the ranch, but so far no luck.  It's a good thing I'm not squeamish!!  Hopefully my finger doesn't fall off before it finally releases it's grip in a week or two.

Today I'm off to the Pest Control store and Lowes for more paint.  At least painting will keep my mind off the porch for an hour or so.

As for my RV?  La Mesa has now had it for 6 working days with absolutely NO work even STARTED, let alone completed.  Yeah ..... WOW !!!

  2. Leave it to a mobile home manufacturer to insulate a porch (good going gays)
The reason you have the riot is because of the plastic tarp
Under the house that's what traps the water as well as the insulation
Wait until he tells you what he's going to have to do in the left side
Technically it's still good news an easy fix
It's not the cost of the material it's the cost of the time
It's how far he has to skin it back
Now you might not wanna hear this if your house is sitting on a block wall on all four sides you might want to hire a Carpenter that is not afraid of claustrophobic and check/Survey the sills all around the perimeter of the house under the main house so you don't get more surprises later

    1. I actually did have a contractor underneath checking out everything and re-leveling it. They said they found nothing. I suppose lucky for me since it's only the outside board.

  3. Nice pavers and yay to having them working on it.
The rotted porch, yeuch, I hope it isn't too long for it to be fixed.
The agave thorn made me cringe. Sounds painful. I'm sorry about La Mesa, don't they know you write a blog???

    1. Hahaha I don't think LaMesa cares. I have to admit though, when Dave worked there, I got excellent service!! Too bad he retired.

  4. Nice job on the Pavers.
Hoping the Porch repair isn't as bad as it looks.
You might consider going to a Clinic to have that thorn removed.
I'd be finding another RV Dealer to fix my rig.

    1. They told me the mechanics are sick, which I suppose could be true. It's not that I need it back immediately, I just don't want them putting me off forever.

  5. The pavers look good. 6 days and nothing done at Le Mesa. You should have made an appointment and been in and out. *smile*

  7. I agree with Ed, have someone check the entire area, water runs along many places and isn't always in the most evident of places.
Soak your finger in warm/hot salt water for a while, a few times a day, it might help to pull the piece to the top. It's how we get a sliver that has gone in too deep to grab.
I think Mesa has dropped the ball and it's time to find a new repair place. If they wanted your business they would be explaining what's taking so long (waiting for parts, etc), it sounds to me as if they've decided they are the only game in town and folks will just wait and put up with whatever RV Mesa does. However this is just my opinion.

    1. LaMesa's excuse is everyone keeps getting sick. Not sure that's true. Thanks for the sliver advice. I'm going to try that and see if I can get it out. It's pretty ouchy!!

  8. We went to Do it yourself Pest Control yesterday and bought scorpion killer concentrate. It'll make 10 or 12 gallons, it's a MUCH better price performer than the stuff we bought at Home Depot. So far we have not seen any dead scorpions which is what I want to see.

  9. I just say the walkway does look nice. Glad they're doing a good job for you. Good thing you don't have travel plans in your RV. That is some rotten porch. I can see why you want that done proto. Good luck!
