Elks Eat Meat

As much as I wanted to play dead on the couch while watching my favorite movies last night, I had obligations.  It was time to put on the monkey suit (better known as the good black and white around here) and head on out to the Lodge.  It was initiation night with another 41 members joining in the fun.

It's pretty crazy how many people are signing up, and not just the old fogies like us, but a huge influx of 30-somethings.  I don't know what happened with the blurry picture.  Guess I should have had my little tripod.

Anyhoo .... I worked a little bit on the latest quilt and finally got all the squares done.  Now to begin the process of sewing all the squares together.  I'm glad this much is done.  I've been fighting pieces of thread that the material is shedding.

It's what happens when you buy a kit with half "okay" fabric and half crappy fabric that the shop threw in because it was cheaper and they would make more money.  I've got enough thread from this project to make a down pillow for my bed.  I tried to vacuum it up, but it completely clogged my vacuum.  Lesson learned .... don't buy from that shop again.

Here's a few seconds of my attempt to finish said quilt.  This goes on all day long.  See the ball in the top right corner?  Cooper won't go get it since he had a lamp fall on his head when he got caught up in an electrical cord years ago.  Pretty smart puppy .... he now just sits there and barks until I go get it.  Oh he gives it a try, but only for my benefit!!!

Back to the Elks, did you know they eat MEAT?  With 41 being initiated, along with 37 of their sponsors, the line to the food was a long one.  That's 78 people who all eat for free, a thank you for joining, followed by another 124 members.  It was a big night, to say the least.

Lucky for me, Lodge officers get to cut in line because we only have a limited amount of time to eat and get to the initiation upstairs.  Maybe this is why so many join the Elks.  This steak was barbecued to perfection (see how it's nicely rare?) and I already ate 1/3 of it.  That's how big they are ... this is the large size to-go container.

The steak, green beans, scalloped potatoes, garlic bread, salad and ice cream goes for $15 twice a month on Lodge night.  You can't even begin to find rib eye steaks for that price.  Could be New York one night and rib eye the next, but they are all amazing.  Add to that free wine from bottles you can take to your table.  Yup .... Elks eat MEAT!!

Even our Friday night dinners are spectacular, with a 14 oz piece of perfectly cooked prime rib running maybe $25, along with one of the best soup and salad bars I've ever been to, and throw in fresh baked desserts to boot.  We have a great Chef who knows how to cook an amazing dinner.  Salmon, shrimp, chicken, steak ... we've got it all.

And so the night ended rather late for me as I fell into bed at 11:30.  Needless to say, I'm a little rummy this morning.    I'll ask for your input about the RV parts and pieces tomorrow when I'm a little more awake.

  1. I was going to say 'where's your tripod?' but you beat me to it. ;) You look great, as always! ♥
No wonder so many are signing up, not sure what the cost is to join but my goodness, Elks get treated well! :)

    1. Elks get treated VERY well. I think that's why we are getting so many new members. It's a huge family that takes care of their own. If you have any kind of problems, they come to your aid.

    1. You are right ... penguin!! LOL. Also true, most every Elks Lodge has some kind of parking available for RV's. That's why I joined originally.

  5. That's great that they are getting so many new members, what do you think the reason is?

    1. Around here I think it's the food and drink. There is a serious lack of decent restaurants, especially affordable ones. We have to drive 40 minutes to find good food. We of course have GREAT food at good prices, not to mention the cost of drinks. What people don't know is if you are in need of help, the Elks are there for you with money or services. If you pass away, they provide funeral services. They really are like family to me. Same goes for every lodge in the U.S. Here's one more reason .. if you are a member, you get in early to the Bingo games so you can get your "spot" before anyone else does. Yes, we have at least 25 members just because of that.

  7. Many people have discovered that some Elk Lodges have campsites for a reasonable cost per night. The campsites are limited to Elk members only and are very popular now. I've used the Elk campgrounds a number of time over the past 5 years or so. Great deal and and I get to meet a lot of nice people at the Lodges.

    1. Exactly! Almost every lodge has some place you can park. Since they are all members only, it's easier to get in. I've stayed at some amazing ones and yes, the price is right!!

  8. Well that steak certainly does look good. Pretty quilt but I can see how you would not be happy with the material shedding thread it is not fun to work with. I would rather not imagine how much fun it was piecing that many little squares together with the edges doing that.

    1. It's going to take a lot of trimming to get them all out of the seams when I quilt it. Lesson learned!!
