SURPRISE!!!!!

I love surprises.  Not the kind where someone jumps out from behind the door and scares the heck out of you, but the good kind.  Like when the bobcat (I've named her Missy) came to visit.

Here was the first surprise of July 4th.  FISH!!!  Any good "Gramma" (which I'm not) worth her salt takes care of the fish when the kids go on vacation.  Wasn't I surprised when the Greenhouse Sitting opportunity involved fish!  Instead of me going back and forth, the entire greenhouse contents were transported to my back yard, along with a tank of the biggest goldfish ever (they live in the water fountain in the greenhouse).  I LOVE THEM!!

No, I have no intention of getting any.  My motorhome menagerie is plenty big enough.
The second surprise was the 6.6 earthquake in Ridgecrest.  My cousin by marriage is now married to the Editor of the Ridgecrest Newspaper.  He headed off in a rush because they were evacuating the hospital due to no electricity.  Thankfully there was no major damage, just one very large crack in the road to Trona that I drove just a few months ago.  This is NOT the GOOD kind of surprise.
This one IS.  I looked out my glass doors to see this baby creeping up through the brush.  Oh my gosh ... my heart went straight to my throat!!  I haven't seen deer here in two years.
My camera is always within reach, so I began snapping away as she snuck up through the bushes looking for water.
That's when I realized there is not just one, but TWO!!  You can barely see the second one on the right.
He couldn't quite get through the bushes and finally came around front.  Sadly, he was limping.
You may just want to skip on down to the next image.  Poor baby had a very bad back leg.  It looks like it was disjointed (probably running from coyotes) and never returned to the correct position.  It certainly didn't slow him down any.
My lucky streak continues!!  Both drank their fill before wandering off down the hill, just in time for the Chance family to miss seeing them.  Isn't she a beauty???
Serial Grillers has the best salads on the planet, so instead of barbecuing for the fourth, we went out to eat.  By the time I got back home, the fireworks started up again around the neighborhood.  Lucky for me, Miss Jessie's hearing is so bad she didn't even notice, as opposed to last year when I had her scrambling up on top of my head!!

On the other hand, my carpenter skills have not been in the "lucky" range and my wallet is still shedding tears.  I'll relay that message tomorrow.

  1. The surprise`s are noice but not the earthquake.
Think your Serial Griller is better than the one here everyone was very disappointed at their prices, slow service and running out of food so quickly.

    1. I do love the babies. If you make the slightest noise, they will look up just in time for a picture! Serial Griller used to be a food truck, but recently opened a couple of new restaurants. They are VERY good!!

  3. If you contact the local Wildlife Rescue show them the disjointed leg picture. They might be able to Tranquilize it and reset its leg.
Lots of Care Sitting looking after plants and fish.
Be Safe and Enjoy the lack of earthquakes.

    It's about time.

  4. KCRA and the SacBee say that people felt the earthquake here and all the way to Yuba City. Personally, I have to wonder about that. I lived her 30+ years and never felt one. However, once when cooking in the restaurant with my good friend it suddenly got very quiet out 'on the floor' (which is what we called the dinning room). Someone said, "Didn't you feel that earthquake?" We were standing on a wooden slotted flooring and we did not feel a thing. Had we not seen the hanging lamps swinging we would have never believed it.

    1. Apparently they really felt it in Las Vegas, and a couple of my hometown friends said they felt it too. I guess it was pretty big!!

  5. We have deer out by Tucson Mountain park. They eat everything, trees, plants, bushes. If it holds still, they'll eat it. Ours are muleys, yours almost look like white tails.

    1. Hmmmm guess I'll have to find out the difference! LOL They just nibble on the trees a little and drink from the water station. I've never seen them eat anything else.

  6. With the exception of the earthquake, lovely 4 legged surprises. Sad about the one with a broken leg - too close to home, that one. they are beautiful creatures and rare to see them so close.

    1. Ahhhh you are right. I should not have shown that one. I think of your little guy every day and know how much you miss him. This deer has bothered me a lot and he's not even mine!!!
