Who Who Who-Who

Actually it should be hoo hoo hoo-hoo.  Guess who came to visit me last night?  Two owls who remained hidden in the very tall trees.  At least it's better to have flying visitors than black stinky ones.

They hoo-ed all night long and serenaded me through my first cup of coffee.  I'm very bleary eyed this morning, but smiling because you never hear them around here any more.

Back in the day they used to roost in our barn, making a terrible mess.  There's nothing like stepping on pellets those owls had regurgitated, not to mention what came out the other end.

I made it an occasion ... an occasion to sit on the couch most of the day.  I finally wandered out far enough to get a haircut.  My gal said it had been a stressful week since they opened, trying to fix all the terrible chopped up hair from well meaning friends who are not talented with a pair of scissors.

Lucky for me, Cooper has slowed down a tad in his old age (he's 11) and not only let me rest, but growled at me when I moved at all for interrupting his sleep.

When I wasn't sewing, I pondered the skunk problem.  I'm taking the advice from a blog reader.  I wired the trap open and filled it with cat food AND now rotten tuna.  What self respecting skunk would not enjoy that?

In a moment of inspiration, I also found an old game camera (the other one is still in Arizona) and attached it to the fence.  Maybe I'll catch a picture or two of my nemesis for your enjoyment.  At this point it's almost required since my neighbor doesn't believe me ... she's never seen a skunk anywhere.  Maybe if I SHOW her, she'll get our back yard fence repaired since all the nails are on HER side.

I hate to admit a skunk is smarter than me, but that appears to be the case.  Me thinks the solution is going to be a costly one ... a concrete pour (by hand) along my back fence.  The gates are an easy fix with wire.

Today I'll be off to get my fingernails fixed.  I've never been fussy about them, but after working the cold icy waters of the Patch's humongous ice chests, they look like I put them in a shredder right up to the quick.

Next up ... smoked ribs.  I've been craving them ever since I left Arizona.  Lean Cuisine always LOOKS yummy, but falls quite short on taste.

Oh ... and my truck, which of course would not start, even after charging.  It's making a horrible noise worthy of a truck surgeon.  So much for that nice Patch check I got!!

  1. So nice to have time to get yourself back together. I need a haircut but you still have to wear a mask inside and I don't want to do that. Cooper is so cute and funny. Good luck with your truck.

  2. I agree with Elva about the stupid mask, so I've put off a hair cut too...Uhh. I've downloaded a few videos about hair cutting and if I get desperate I'll let Ken do it lol. Be interesting to see if you can capture the skunk(s)..Hope the truck isn't too big of an issue $$$...

  3. Instead of pouring the concrete on the ground do just the opposite buy 2 60 lb bag of concrete don’t open it just laid tham up against the hole A bag of concrete is about as big as your average pillow so if you put one side-by-side the little stinker can’t get through. If you do that for each hole that you suspect you’ll block it off Now seeing each one of those bags weigh 60 pounds you can get the guy at Home Depot to load your pick up truck with how many you need but you will need to grab one of the teenagers in the neighborhood now seeing each one of those bags weigh 60 pounds you can get the guy at Home Depot to load your pick up truck with how many you need but you will need to grab one of the teenagers in the neighborhood to place the bags (Get the cheapest ones you can) The only issue that you will have later on when it rains those concrete bags Will absorb the water and will get to be a concrete block .... literally
No mixing required just placed the bag
