Time To Rest Up And VOTE

At long last I get to rest ... well, sort of.  After yesterday's skunk encounter AGAIN, I wasn't much in the mood for cleaning up at the Patch.  They thought I bailed on them, but it was the time change that made them think that.  I started work at 9:30.  That's when I found out I was the ONLY one cleaning and packing up the snack shack.  It's okay, I'd rather do that than contemplate the skunk.

Here's a bird's eye view of the back half of the facility.  Now you know how I can rack up seven to eight miles a day walking.  The old dairy barn is full of pumpkins in bins and picnic tables.  The bullpen and corral on the left, picnic tables for your relaxation and enjoyment.  I didn't seem to get any of that this year.

I sneezed my brains out the entire time.  That of course brought on fits of coughing.  I ate those Ricola cough drops like candy.  By noon I was done ... I mean really done.  It was no matter though ... I now had to track down my voting ballot that SHOULD have been mailed to my address.

I'm pretty sure the Post Office personnel loved my coughing all the way in and out.  I found eight pieces of mail telling me to vote before at long last, finding my ballot.  I quickly filled it out and headed for the Community Center where they were accepting them.

Of course there was a big sign on the door ... MASK ... but alas, I had none.  I coughed and sneezed my way through the door right up to the table.  I don't know why a mask would be required ... they all were wearing them ... one gal had TWO on ... along with a huge plastic window surrounding them with a one inch slot at the bottom.

Surprisingly, they pulled up my name on their computer and dropped my ballot into a sealed and locked garbage can ... perfect to haul to the dump.  Just kidding.  It's amusing to me that everyone is so afraid of breathing in something, yet they TOUCH everything with no problem.  That's an even better way to catch a cold.

Since I was just down the street, I headed off to the grocery store to stock up.  I'm pretty tired of eating candy, past-dated tortillas and frozen taquitos.  Oh wait .. there was that one garlic bread stick.  Now I have bagels and lean cuisine to choose from.  Whoopee!!

Interestingly enough, I found some off-brand canned pumpkin since Libby's seemed to be out of stock and NO graham crackers.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason.  Gingersnaps will have to suffice for that pumpkin cheesecake I plan on making.

Back to my buddy here ... I read up on what they like to eat.  Stinky stuff like sardines or tuna supposedly works well, better than crackers and peanut butter.  I picked up the trap, covered the hole with an old grain bucket and a huge piece of concrete and headed for the hole by the gate.

I enticingly dumped two huge pieces of tuna into the trap and set it up in the new location.  You got it ... NO skunk this morning.  I'm fed up and too tired to figure out how to win the war.

Today I have to face the fact that I need a new computer.  Ugh ... that's a BIG expense and will probably take every penny I just made at the patch.  Same goes for my phone.  It seems they have all upgraded so much that none of the new banking apps will work on my devices.  It's how they get you to buy even more expensive tech items.

Oh well ..... easy come (not really), easy go (definitely)!!

  1. Maybe you'll get a bonus for closing up.
You might have to wait for the Tuna to go rancid in order for it to call your friend. If it's fresh there's little smell.
You could go broke keeping up with the latest and greatest technology. We are happy with our old Cell Phones and Computers. As long as they are working we'll keep using them and save our money.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. I would definitely keep the old, but my banking applications will not work with them any more. It's looking like I have no choice.

    1. Well Dave ... I went to the TOP of the slide. From the bottom it looks like no big deal. From the top, it looks like you are on Mount Everest. No ... there are no pictures of me walking back down.

  3. Pick the computer that you want and then go online and search for that make and model more likely you will come out cheaper then Stor bot.
If it’s a phone you’re after and you need an iPhone can’t help you there but with an android phone look under the Motorola they have a better camera (love mine )and a lot longer battery life I can easily get three days out of mine
By the way have you solved the black streaks on your RV with the product you’re using ??
Where you Do catch El Stanko How are you going to transport him from point a to someplace else?

    1. Surprisingly, the mop and glo on the RV roof has worked really good, although it's time to do it again. El Stanko can be removed in the trap with his tail down (so they can't spray) to another location many miles away. Open the trap and run while they get themselves out. It's a no kill trap.

  4. In my past life in pest control, I found that a can of cat food worked pretty well. You might want to place the bait in trap with trap wired open for a few days until the varmint starts relying on the bait. Then arm the trap so to speak. Have you considered how to dispose of the skunk once in the live trap? I would approach with a sheet of plastic to shield myself from being sprayed and then wrap the trap. Dispose of in your preferred manner.

    1. Excellent advice. Thank you so much!!! Supposedly the trap is small enough (like a piece of large pvc pipe) not to let the skunk raise it's tail to spray. Wiring it open? I love the idea. I will definitely do that today!!

  5. Ditto Mr. Ed about a Motorola phone. Our friend does tons of research before she buys anything and she bought a Motorola. So we just copied her.

    1. I will look into Motorola. I've always had an iPhone, but it's worth a shot.

  6. Time to rest is right. So, interesting that they let you walk in and vote without a mask, isn't it? Kills me!
Got any turtle eggs in your fridge (haha) skunks'll fight tooth and nail to get those!
Good luck with the phone and computer search.

    1. I thought so too about the mask. Turtle eggs ... no, not around here. I know they like eggs though, so maybe some chicken eggs will work.
