Sometimes you get dumped on ... sometimes you don't. This was a dumped on day. The rain started early and just like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going!! I had plans to get out of the house, but in spite of all my good thoughts, someone was doing the Hokey Pokey rain dance ... and the rains just kept coming.
I tried to stay busy by sewing, but the couch kept calling my name. So did Mr. Cooper. He was hungry, but nothing in the fridge hit his elite pallet the right way. What a spoiled boy he is! Eventually he settled for the Costco roasted chicken.
This however ... THIS was the highlight of the day. Has anyone been keeping up with the stranded astronauts at the International Space Station? Truly, this is not my thing, but how could you not be fascinated by this story. Like Gilligan, two of our astronauts went up for an eight day trip, but got stranded because our government at the time decided NOT to go get them. What the heck? That's crazy?
EIGHT MONTHS they have been stuck up there until Elon Musk said "I'll go get them". SPACEX to the rescue. So between Spacex and Nasa, they sent up a spaceship yesterday to drop off two and rescue two. They say astronauts expect this kind of thing. I would be panicking. I guess that's why I'm not an astronaut.
You just can't help but be fascinated and amazed at this. I actually held my breath the entire time.
The rocket took off and flew for a few minutes before the separation began as they left the earths atmosphere.
Can you just imagine the adrenaline ... the heart pumping ... the praying ... please don't blow up!!
This part .... THIS is the AMAZING part. The rocket separates from the capsule and heads back to earth.
Are you kidding me? How does it not crash and burn??
Well because Elon's rocket scientists have designed and built this thing to be reused. It came back down the same way it went up until DING DING ... that framework opened up and it made a perfect landing right there.
A perfect four point landing. This is just the most amazing thing I've seen since the first guys went to the moon and back. We all know how long ago THAT was!!
And NOW ... those four astronauts in the capsule are headed to the ISS. They should be hooking up around 11:30 tonight. It all just amazes me.
Here's a quick little movie where you can see inside the capsule as they scream along through space. I don't know how they do it ... I like my feet planted FIRMLY on the ground. I don't even like to fly in airplanes!!
So big congrats to Nasa and Spacex for their rescue mission. We are watching history folks ... amazing history. Maybe one day they WILL make it to Mars!!
Or to INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!! Yes, Toy Story ... that's from Toy Story!!
Space always amazes me. Progress in the making!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday!
No rain here today.
Frances:)
Looks like you sent some of that rain our way.
ReplyDeleteFrom imagination to reality, space has captured the hearts of millions of people, dating back to the BC calendar.
Stay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
I too watched the blast off and the recovery of the primary booster thinking back to the days of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo where they (media) use to have those launches on TV for hours...then for maybe an hour...then the latter liftoffs were just a 5 minute segment on the TV News Hour, especially after 1970. Then the Space Shuttle came along and as soon as it blew up in 1986 it became important again. I too watched yesterday with that prayer in my heart of "don't blow up..."
ReplyDeleteI watched the lift off too and said prayers for the crew and a safe return.
ReplyDeleteAlways amazes me when they leave earth.
Great lift off and truly amazing! We as a country, should be so grateful to Elon Musk and his Space X for making this happen. Instead the crazies are attacking him every which way they can. What is wrong with this picture? Not the America that I grew up in. So sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible to watch the lift off and return. I've followed some of the ISS live feeds.
