She's So PURDY!!

I finally started a new quilt after scrounging through bags and bags of material yesterday.  It's very interesting to me how my taste in things changes over a few short years.  Many of these fabrics I purchased were my FAVORITES three years ago.  Now, not so much.  Funny how that happens.

That crazy bright African patterned cotton just doesn't go with Cowboy and the one with 2500 tiny pieces doesn't interest me in the least.  I seem to be off into the realm of neutrals.  I'll post pictures later.

At any rate, here's a couple more images of the cooking expedition.  It was either that or another Cooper picture.  In the end, we had seven of these squarehead pans full to the brim.  That's a LOT of pasta and sauce!!  I reminded her right after this picture she had to have gloves on in the kitchen.

I finally got up off the couch long enough to head out to the store.  Not Walmart this time, but our little market in town, although neither require masks any more.  Honestly, I'm not sure why some people even bother to WEAR masks.

I kept my distance as much as possible until I came to the vegetable section.  There I spotted three women, all wearing masks, who were manhandling every piece of food in front of them.  No gloves by the way, just masks.  One kept moving it up so she could breathe and the second finally took it off one ear so she could see better.

The last one was after limes ... unfortunately the same thing I needed.  Here's a huge bin of limes and she is rolling them back and forth, up and down with her hands, trying to find the perfect ones.  She actually took two FULL bags, after having touched every single lime in the bin ... along with her face while adjusting her mask .... multiple times.

Truthfully, I'm not worried, I just picked up six limes trying not to touch any others, but I admit I did wash them well when I got home.  Of all the people in the store that had masks, every person I saw touched their face and removed it to some extent.  I feel so much safer now.  Please, if you touch the produce, take it home with you.

While perusing the limes, I got this picture from Arizona.  This is the trailer's first outing.  Wow ... she's all shined up and SO purdy!!
To make it even better, Laila got third place out of nineteen entrants in the showmanship class using the fancy silver halter I left in the trailer for her.  She must have spent hours cleaning it up.  You GO girl!!!  The other good thing about the trailer ... they can haul horses for other girls in 4-H who would not otherwise even get to go to the horse show.  It's a win-win!!
I'm pretty sure this will be a boring INSIDE week as our temperatures are predicted to be 107 on Wednesday and 108 on Thursday.  Spring came and went in one week.

I'm hoping everyone has a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!

  1. So happy for Laila! First Place is right around the corner for her, I am positive of it!!

We were in the lower nineties yesterday, but with humidity it was more like 99...YUCK! Can't wait to get out of here, but it will not be until early July.

    1. The heat is going to be killer here this week, but at least we don't have humidity. That's even worse.

  2. Way to go Laila! Congrats! I thought our 88 later this week is bad, but yours!! All that food is amazing, cute pics! Have to agree with you about the masks and the touching of food, but been going on forever. If it wasn't for the big deal it is now, we'd never think about it, we'd just wash our veggies and get on with life like we've always done.

    1. It probably has been going on, I just never noticed. Maybe that's why my immunity is good ... I rarely washed the veggies! Course I always take from the far back, but come to think of it, SOMEONE handled them.

  3. That was a lot of Pasta but it looks like you had it under control.
There are some stores that actually have signs in their produce area saying if you touch it you own it.
People that have problems with masks have never done it before.
Glad to see Laila is enjoying the use of the trailer.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  4. Looks like grandpa Dan got roped in as being a designated Horse truck driver
Now All she needs is a Akubra To go along with the buckle plate ( is that a Cody James or a Jensen )(if it's a Greg Jensen it's probably an antique I don't believe he's even in business anymore)( I have 2 of his (Western) belt buckles in my safe )
If she's going to show the horses she needs a new plate for each horse

    1. Actually I think that was Dad Mark that got the driving job. I don't think Grandpa's brand new truck will be pulling a horse trailer! LOL

  5. That's a lot of sauce. Congratulations to Laila! Going to get into the 100's here too. I'm not looking forward to that but it's still better than Yuma.

  6. By the smile on that young lady's face I would say you did a beautiful thing and it sounds like they will be paying it forward by transporting others. You are a special lady.

Masks and gloves are only useful, in my opinion, if used properly and most people really do not get it. Including the Governor of Michigan. She has got it on, she is taking it off and setting on the podium, then while she is talking she is touching her face while moving her hair(things we all do without giving it much thought), then she is putting it on to walk away to let the next person speak at the podium who repeats the taking off and setting it on the podium which they are all touching. Then eventually she is back at the podium repeating her "show" again. It is the "law" in Michigan if you are inside a public building so on and off the masks come.

    1. Oh my .... I have to admit you cannot understand anyone wearing a mask ... it's too muffled for these ears, but maybe they should just hold it and not touch anything! LOL

  7. You do know that the grocery stores DO provide you with free gloves
For those of you that like to be a touchy-feely person go to the produce section and grab a couple of the produce clear bags put your hand inside one
Pick the product that you're after... now we've all picked up dog poop so we know how to use plastic bags... grab the product slip the bag over it The same way.. see you've never touch the product physically.. do the same thing in the meat department deli department
The only problem you'll have is a watermelon that you're going to have to manhandle sorry
See free gloves... pass it along
When you get home don't throw the plastic bags away they make good ? doggy bags For your car for your RV or when you go to the gas station to pump gas then you could throw them away
They also make great rain hats for when it's raining
Save the bag for when you're peeling your product... thank you grocery store for there free gloves 👍

    1. That's weird .... there are no free gloves anywhere around here, and you can't even find any masks. I do use the bags however ... they make great camera covers in the rain.

  8. Congratulations to Laila! Since I'm new to your blog, is Laila your niece, a friend? Good tips provided by Mister ed on "gloves available at the grocery stores" - i.e. plastic bags. I'm googling free gloves. I always save my bags - so who knows what I'm missing out on!

    1. Laila is Patty and Dan Chance's (my best friends) granddaughter who lives near them in Tucson. I've never heard of any free gloves. I don't think they do that here.

  9. Congrats Laila! That's awesome and with her outfit she is a true cowgirl. Love the belt buckle too, Bill has a similar one. :)
Can't wait to see what you create from your quilt pieces - if you do.
I was nervous about picking my tomatoes yesterday but she'd sprayed my hands so wasn't as careful. Sorry! The first bunch had a bad spot and I wasn't taking it. LOL
yes, if you're wearing a mask, leave it alone for heaven's sake!

    1. No spraying of hands going on here either, but that is a good idea. Weird how every place is so different.

  10. Great that Laila got third place and the smile on her face says it all. I see you are back in the swing of things, volunteer wise, you do keep busy. Take care Nancy.
