It Takes Patience

You all know, patience is not my forte.  Try as I might, I just get frustrated, stay awake all night long fretting and get up cranky.  Such has been the case lately with crazy California and what's going on in the world.

It was a nice break in the action to take Doug Laning over to the Mission San Xavier Del Bac for a few pictures.  Sadly, even though their website said they were open, everything was locked up tight and a big CLOSED sign was at the door.
We walked around the outside, then up on the hill to the grotto, but it's the inside that makes this the most fabulous church I've ever been in.  I told Doug I would post a few pictures from year's past just to whet his appetite to return next year when it is again open.
The pictures don't even begin to do it justice.  It's a must see in person.
One of these days I will go back and ask the question:  Are these amazing features carved in to the adobe walls themselves or were they carved separately and somehow glued to the walls?  Here you go Doug.  Put it on your list for you and Dolly to visit.
In my back yard, patience is a virtue also.  I kept spotting red, or what I thought was dark pink.  I really couldn't see, so I grabbed my camera and began to shoot, not really having a clue if I caught anything or not.
There were three birds flitting around my Texas tree of beautiful gold baubles.   When I processed the images, look what I got!!!  Cardinals in my very own back yard.  I can't believe my luck.  Not great pictures, but you get the idea.
And for your viewing pleasure, here is another terrible image.  Momma is now sitting on her nest of two eggs.  This picture is from squeezing between two pieces of the bedroom blinds and shooting through the glass with twelve branches between her and I.

It took lots of patience just moving an inch at a time so I didn't disturb her.  She has added all kinds of dry leaf pieces around the edge of her nest.  Nice decorating work!!
THIS is where the real patience has come to play.  I've been calling Phil the Blue Ribbon Paver guy for 6 weeks now, trying to get him to finish the front porch.  Four times he said he would send his crew out and FOUR times no one showed up.

I finally called Home Advisor (where the recommendation came from) and told them I wanted to revise my 4 star rating.  I explained the problem, whereupon the very nice lady changed everything to a ONE star and stated why.

She said their protocol is to call the contractor and give him two days to respond.  If not, he's off their list forever.  Woohoo!!

He called me in less then ten minutes.  Oh so sorry .... he completely forgot.  How could he forget when I called him four times and four times he said he would show up?  Sad excuse.  At any rate, the crew showed up two hours later and began work.  They will finish up everything today.  Sometimes it does take PATIENCE, even though I have a minuscule amount.
Word is now that California is going to relax their regulations in spite of the President saying it's HIS choice, not that it matters to me.  With my porch completed, I'll be heading back that direction in a couple of weeks regardless.

I still have more "escape" images and three more hot dogs to eat.  Maybe those chicken dogs will increase my patience level.

  1. The Mission is gorgeous! I'm thinking it's a bucket list item! Wow..isn't it amazing what a phone call and a star rating can do! They do beautiful work for sure, just too bad there isn't more care about finishing a job! Glad it'll be done for you now! The little hummingbird is just too cute!

    1. If you're ever in this area Shirley, definitely stop at the mission. You will be amazed at the workmanship. I was surprised about the rating, but apparently that's pretty important. He mentioned it again and again.

  2. I would give my eye teeth to be able to shelter in place. Both my aging husband and my daughter are at risk. I don't have that luxury as I am essential personnel at a hospital.
Perhaps if everyone that is not essential followed the guidelines we would ALL be safer.
I try to not comment on politics and have it affect which blogs I read for enjoyment, but am afraid it will.
Take Care and try to SIP for those that cannot.

    1. Oh gosh Yvette ... thank you so much for working during these difficult times. I'm very aware of staying put, however where I'm located ... out in the middle of nowhere ... there's no contact of any kind going on. For everyone's sake, I hope this slows down soon. I hear a vaccine will be available shortly. Hope that helps protect your family.

  3. Beautiful pictures of the Mission. Definitely worth a visit.
The Contractor will use the excuse of the Virus Restrictions but construction has been deemed an Essential Service.
Even if the restrictions are lifted in California doesn't mean that you have go back right away.
Be Safe and Enjoy the solitude longer.

    It's about time.

    1. It is interesting that all Contractors are still working. I really do have to get back to California soon. There are several irons in the fire and I'll get burned if I don't take care of things soon.

  4. Good job on lighting a fire under Phil. His crews do really good work, I'm not sure what he brings to the table.

  5. Phil (Blue Ribbon) Is a bit of a jerk. We had similar issues when he did our driveway. Good on ya' for yanking his chain, he deserved it. BTW, we stopped by a Dollar store on our way back from Fry's on Houghton. Suffice it to say that there is no longer a TP shortage at the Mohr/Davis household....:)

    1. YAY!!! I'm glad you got caught up on the necessities!! It's a long drive to this Fry's, but they seem to have everything. I was surprised at Phil's quick response to a one star rating! LOL

  6. Well. I'm thinking we consider the Mission to be a tourist attraction but it is a regular church and all churches are closed. But I also would think that it would be open. Pavers look great. Glad that got done. And the Cardinals are beautiful!

    1. The Mission is a very active church, which is why I really thought it would be open. On the other hand, it is always full to the brim with tourists, so I see their point in closing.

Mostly I'm impatient when service people don't do their job.

  9. Interesting how once a business's rating changes for the worse, they react. I'll remember that!
Beautiful cardinal pictures! and Momma hummer is so cute. Good job capturing both of those. I love the bauble tree more and more each time I see pics of it!

    1. I was surprised he reacted so quickly to my bad rating. Many don't care. I do love the critters. Hoping Momma hummer sticks around.
