No one ever mentions the bugs you find as you travel across the U.S., so I'm going to be the first. Let me say right up front that I HATE bugs of any kind. In California, I only have to deal with black widows. The new home sprays that are out now take care of the widows quite nicely. I do give my dogs heart worm medicine (mosquitos) since I travel so much, at a cost of around $80 for three months, including the vet visit. Yes, we have NO fleas. They say it's because so many people use Advantix or Frontline that the populations have been kept in check. I'm thinking it's probably a weather and time-of-the-century thing. I'm sure they'll be back at some point.
THEN, we landed outside Kansas City Missouri in Jackson County Blue Springs Campground. At first, it was relaxing, with the exception of the electrical problems I kept having. It was THEN that the tick population exploded!! I found one crawling on my leg ... then one stuck in my foot!! If this gives YOU the creeps, how do you think I felt??? I checked the dogs from top to bottom and they appeared fine. Yesterday morning, I looked down to find a nice very tiny but FAT tick laying on the bathroom floor. I don't want to gross you out, but I discovered it had come from my side. I had a heart attack, following by an anxiety attack on the heals of a panic attack on the way to a mental breakdown!!
With our second reservation at this park taking effect, I moved over to the newer electrical service side, where BOTH of my air conditioners work AT THE SAME TIME!! YAY for good power!! See, it's NOT my rig!!!
THEN came the final attack!! Since the laundry (only one machine) is just across the way, I decided to wash my sheets and towels there, while Barbara and Tom went into town with their eights loads. That would turn out to be the mistake of the day. I left my empty laundry bag on the floor where I'm sure some critters hitched a ride back to my rig. This morning I woke up to six bites from "something" located from head to toe. Remember when I said I love it here?? I take it back ... I hate it!! There's nothing that bothers me more than BUGS and this country seems to have more than it's share!! As I reregistered yesterday for the new site, the camp host told me this was the worst year EVER for ticks. Thank you, and welcome to Missouri.
Pardon me while I itch and twitch, I feel that total mental breakdown coming on .........
