Sweaty Palms and Nervous Kids!!

Yesterday was a work day for us at the Kansas City Bartle Hall and Conference Center for the National Leadership and Skills Conference ... Skills USA!!  We were so busy moving chairs and tables and putting up signs that I have no images to show you.  This time you have to use your imagination to see into the rooms as Jenny and Mitchell took the students through orientation.  We arrived about 11:00 am ... the students arrived about 10:00 am.  They had to maneuver through the maze of hallways to find the Job Interview rooms, so many arrived VERY early.  Hey, better to be ON TIME for your competition rule review so you know what to expect.  Even though each had won their State competition, those programs may not be run exactly the same as THIS one!!  Listen up kids!!!

Dressed in their snazzy Skills USA digs with white shirts, black skirts or pants and red jackets, they were a sight to see.  As Mitchell and Jenny went through the scenario they would be involved in today, they asked a hundred questions, as kids will.  I'm sure two minutes after they left, all the information drifted into the air out through the top of the building!!  You could tell they were pretty nervous, and many handshakes were made with sweaty palms!!

Jenny has devised a great system for assigning interview times and rooms.  Each one chose a card placed upside down on the table, that had their interview room and time.  They wrote their student "number" on a small tab that once handed to us, was placed on the sheet with each room across the top and each time down the side.  Pretty smart cookie that Jenny!!  In less than 15 minutes, about 60 kids had their appointed time and interview room.

Once they left, we reconfigured the room for the Judges information session, and most importantly, the Judges food table!!  We also set up tables at the back of the room where the kids will fill out an application for their position, which will be scored along with their resume and actual interview.

It should be an interesting day ... hopefully I'll at least get some pictures of us eating lunch!!
