Support Your Local Food Trucks

We used to call them gut wagons.  Pre-made sandwiches, usually put together three weeks ago, along with chips and a soda.  Nowadays, it's a whole new animal.  Totally regulated by the local Health Department, you can get some gourmet meals on wheels.

They usually meet up somewhere far away, but the local Catholic Church has some electrical connections in a big parking lot at the end of our street.  Voila!!  Food truck mania has hit our little corner of the world.
The menu isn't very diversified, but the price is usually right.  They average about $10 a plate.  The black rig is kettle corn ... perfect for keeping the kids busy while your food is cooked.  Since most everything is cooked fresh (I think from frozen), there is a wait time.

This is Foxy Roxy's chicken.  There are about ten flavors for your dining pleasure.  I had no idea chicken came in flavors.  What caught my eye was chicken in a waffle cone.  The flavors included barbecue, honey mustard, buffalo wing and ..... wait for it .......... MAPLE SYRUP!!  We have a winner!!!
The blue cheese dressing didn't go well with the maple flavoring, so I ditched that right away.  The chicken was pretty tasty, as was the thin crispy waffle underneath that collected all the leftover syrup from the chicken.  Forget the fries ... they weren't on my diet anyway.  It was edible, although another quarter cup of syrup would have made it awesome!  Sadly, these were NOT the gourmet trucks from the television show.
Next time I'll try something from the barbecue trailer.  In fact, they were ALL trailers, not trucks.  At any rate, I topped the chicken off with a piece of Sarge's Cheesecake.  It was pretty tasty and I was singing Sarge's praises until I looked at the bottom of the box.  I don't think Food Truck cooks use things like guar gum, food starch modified, sodium phosphate, potassium sorbate and enzymes (not to mention partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil) in their everyday cooking.  I'm guessing that's NOT homemade.

At any rate, it was all very tasty, but WAY too much food that I happily consumed.  In no time, my body let me know it was not the least bit happy, even if my taste buds were!!  I was miserable all night long.

For you men out there contemplating a new look, check out this "do".  I guess it's a mohawk of sorts. It doesn't quite compute with my Arizona Cowboy image.  Oh well, to each his own.
With a little more rain and slightly cooler temperatures ... it's all the way down to 76 this morning ... I wandered off down the road of adventure to a little town called Dragoon.  Best name ever for a town. Apparently there are only about two people who think that, since it's pretty much a ghost town.  I even met a REAL cowboy.  More on that tomorrow.  I'm going to finish off that second piece of cheesecake I got for this morning's breakfast.  Guar gum never tasted so good!!

  3. We had food trucks on our beach (east coast of Florida north of Nick and Terry) long before they became "a thing"! Now they're gone because the powers that e wanted to attract a different type of tourist, meaning upscale! The beach is not the same, too many rules and no food or drinks. The "upscale tourists" don't know what they're missing! BTW, last week you showed a quilted bag you made. Do you have the pattern name or number, my daughter said she would make me one.

    1. Gosh June, in most places they would be glad to have ANY kind of tourist! Too bad they have done away with the food trucks.
You bet on the pattern ... it's #ps056 The Boxy Tote designed by Penny Sturges. It's pricey at $25, but the metal hardware is included. You'll love it!!

  4. There's a guy on one of my "reality" shows with that haircut. I always think the guy could be nice looking if he had a regular haircut. I'm not a fan of that style. Elva Shannon
