I'm up ... I'm up, bleary eyed and yawning like crazy. The old brain is a little slow ... okay, a LOT slow ... after a late might of meeting after meeting, but I DID remember today is Veterans Day. A BIG thank you to all who served in order to keep our country FREE. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

Gluten Is Good
It's raining ... it's pouring ... the old man is snoring .... yup that's the REAL version of the song, which we sang quite often, along with 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Maybe that's why we were required to sleep outside all summer long. We only changed up "It's Raining" to Georgie when he came to visit. He and his brother spent a few summers with us because they were getting in trouble in their home town. We were so far out in the country, there was nothing to do but work our little butts off.
Winter has definitely set in as our nighttime temps for the next week will be in the mid 30's. Brrrrrrr. Guess I'm going to have to turn the heat on here and there. Yes I have great solar, but it's not enough to have a zero bill if I don't watch it.
On the other hand, I'm very happy we don't have hurricanes here. Florida is getting hit with another one, although I think they are calling it a tropical storm. Looks like a hurricane to me. Be safe Dave and Marcia. It's heading your way.
SO ... I thought I would practice my pancake skills since we always have a pancake breakfast. Remember that expensive 12 ounce box of gluten free Bisquick? Time to put it to the test.

The Blood Moon Eclipse
It's raining ... it's pouring ... Georgie is snoring. We sang that a lot when I was a kid, laying outside on our old army cots with just a thin sleeping bag. There would be no sleeping out here however, since it rained most of the night, then another six hours worth yesterday. We haven't seen anything like that in many moons.

Possibly Rabid
Happy Voting Day from sunny California. Did you know the 2020 census showed an historical low number of people living here? I'm pretty sure it's even LOWER now, as people are flooding to other states to get away from the tyrannical tax-inducing governor now in office. I hate politics, but seem to have been drug in kicking and screaming due to the current state of the nation. We are in trouble, so please vote accordingly.
THEN ... it was TURN THE TIME BACK day ... that craziness also instituted by the State that causes sleepless nights and time differences that ruin your schedule. By the way, your animals have to adjust to the new schedule also.
Me? I stay on Arizona time. That way I don't annoy my Arizona friends when I call them at 5:00 in the morning. I even try to be extra quiet when I get up at 3 am Cyndae time when she visits.
Here's the latest foxy video. I noticed the other day that two big potato bugs had disappeared from my patio. It appeared they were dead when I saw them last. In fact, I haven't seen hardly any spiders outside either. I have a feeling this is why. I never knew they ate bugs and such. I thought they were always after the chickens and eggs. I have my own pest control service every night and it's FREE.

Rainbow Bridge .... Yet Again
Not me and not my Cooper thankfully, but another rainbow bridge happened today. I'll get to that in a minute. It's raining nicely again. I don't think California has gotten any rain this time of year in ages. It's expected to continue on and off for the next four days. I'm loving it because the sprinklers are turned off. So much for walks outside though. Here's my shadow waiting under the desk for me to finish up.

The Dreaded "M" Word
How the weather does change. It's a warm 55 degrees this morning following a light rain last night. Earplugs kept me snug as a bug in my electric blanket as Cooper and I fought for space. He usually wins.
Up early as usual, it was time to hit the the streets. It was rather unusual on this trip around the neighborhood to find so many birds out and about. A little hard to see, but these are turkey buzzards that come to roost here every year.
There's a huge number of them, making me wonder if they knew something I didn't. I changed directions. They used to hang out in the big trees behind my house, leaving a nasty mess in their wake. Dead things go in and dead things come back out. I'm glad they decided to move about half a mile West of me.
Then there were the crows ... I've never seen so many in one spot, making a terrible racket. Cooper hates that crows even fly over his lawn. He barks until they fly away.
So much so that when we went to move the big box full of junk (that I haven't hauled off), he said let's just load it in my truck. I have a big dumpster we can put it in. REALLY? Wow ... this is like the days of old when neighbors and friends helped neighbors and friends. I'm so happy I'm bursting at the seams.
In the end, it will be a few weeks before painting can start ... the wood needs to dry out after this rain ... but he said he wanted to get my gutters working before this weeks downpour. I can never thank Cyndae enough for this recommendation!!
I spent the evening with a smile on my face, knowing my house was going to be fixed up, as I watched the World Series. I don't have a horse in this race, but I did want Dusty Baker to win a Series after such a long career in baseball. And win it they did. CONGRATS to the Houston Astros, only their second win in their franchise history.

Money Money Money
It's another cold morning in sunny California. A cool 37 degrees greeted me this morning as I scanned the yard for critters. Yesterday I discovered someone had been digging in my flowerbeds out back. That's not a good sign, so today I'll be patrolling the West Wing for entrance caves. I'm hoping it was just Foxy looking for a tasty treat.
My sweet Cooper and I snuggled on the couch for some time before I got my act together. It was time to go see the dentist. That's one place I hate to go.
I think I've mentioned this story before. When I was maybe 7 years old, my mother took me to a dentist in town ... an old guy the likes of which you have probably seen on old western movies. He said I had two cavities ... I think they were in baby teeth ... and I didn't need Novocain because they were so small. He literally held me down while drilling. I screamed a lot, to no avail. The next trip to the dentist took me 18 years. Luckily I have good teeth.
That's how I met friend Cyndae. I was lucky enough to get her as my teeth-cleaning lady. She is wholly responsible for me having good teeth!!
Are you kidding? The State of California is giving me money? I heard something about giving checks to seniors, but really didn't know why. It appears it's a GSS (Golden State Stimulus) check sent to EVERYONE (not just seniors) who actually paid their taxes in 2020. It's coming from the excess budget monies in the billions. So WHY are we paying so much taxes now if there's so much left over????
There is of course an income limit ... you're not going to believe this. If you made less than $250,000 in 2020, you get a $250 stimulus check to help with the ridiculous inflation (we know who caused that) and the current gas prices (we know who caused that too).
They are actually calling it a California Middle Class Tax Refund. If $250,000 is middle class, I'm definitely down in the LOWER POOR CLASS. At least now that check to the dentist won't bounce. If you are lucky, it might even buy you two tanks of fuel to maybe last 30 days. Okay, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I noted before that I would report on the Tikka Masala. Don't buy it. Enough said. Oh it was edible, and I didn't throw it away since food is too expensive. It wasn't pepper hot, but the spices were overwhelming. I do love Indian food, having spent so much time marathon training in the hills of San Francisco where you can get any kind of food you want, any time of the day.
I found a hole-in-the wall restaurant that cooked up the best Indian food ever for $5.00 a plate. It was amazing, and I ate there often. Nothing compares.

BAD Doggy Mom!!
Yikes!! What happened? It was a lovely 62 degrees just a couple days ago, and now it's 37! That doesn't usually show up until some time in December. The change in weather has been dramatic. It's supposed to begin raining Sunday and continue for four days. Maybe California will actually get enough rain this year to fill the reservoirs. This is what it looks like out of Reno, just over the mountains. Guess I better dig out all my winter boots.
Every time one went by, he jumped down and ran to the door. SEVENTY ONE times. This is a screen shot of his positioning most of the night. It made me feel TERRIBLE!

Craziest Thing I've Ever Seen
It's morning again. Dark and cold after another day of rain. I do love having Mother Nature water my lawn so I can turn my system off. She does a much better job.
I spent the early hours watching the fox videos again, and what do I see but a strange white thing running around the back yard. Trust me, he NEVER gets out there by himself. He has his very own MOM watchdog at all times, especially after the skunk encounter. We are not doing THAT again!

I NEED A CLOTHESPIN!!!
Oh me oh MY ... this is what I call the Bingo hangover. I switched up a chili cheese dog sans bun (that's French for without) thinking it would be better. Trust me, it was NOT. It sure tasted good going down however.
Add to that the 4 o'clock wake up, followed by being attacked by a bear, car jacked by a crazy killer and having a dog jump in your truck without you knowing until you drove 300 miles. I'd give anything to figure out my Halloween nightmares that happen most every night.
So I'm rather drug out this morning, yawning, eyes half closed, trying to concentrate. It will get better in no time though .. I've got phony coffee.
GREAT NEWS yesterday, it not only sprinkled but it rained like a son-of-a-gun!! I couldn't believe it until I got soaked running from my house to the garage. I know I have six umbrellas around the house, but I couldn't find a single one.

Ghosties and Goblins
I'm up ..... at least my body is up. My brain isn't quite in gear yet. Coffee .... I need coffee!! It's a warm 50 degrees this morning with rain "suggested" for the next two days. I'm not sure what that means just yet, but maybe we'll get a sprinkle or two.
My pirate kid wasn't very appreciative of his peg leg and twice removed it in disgust. Thankfully, part of his order was received yesterday, including the horse wrap. It works wonders ... even for me.
