Well That Was Interesting .....

Heating right up ........ low of 65.  Truly that's my preferred HIGH.  It was unusually warm for spring, but that went perfectly with my unusual day!  You just never know about the folks you interact with until you have lunch with them.

The morning started out quite nicely with Mr. Cooper hiding in the corner.  He's actually a little miffed that I moved my arms too much reading stuff on my phone.  I was just passing time.

I worked on this a bit more, finally coming up with some fabric for the borders.  I hate having these things sitting around unfinished, including the veterans quilts with names.  I still haven't figured out the embroidery part.

I was just waiting for the appointed hour.  I was having lunch with a local individual who is a quite well known lawyer in these parts.  A MARRIED lawyer ... so there was no hanky panky on the horizon.  It was just going to be a discussion about certain expenditures and what accounts they could be paid from.

So why a picture of my Levis?  Not exactly the best of wear to an upscale meeting, but as you probably know, I have NOTHING in the way of a workplace wardrobe any more, nor do I WANT to have anything that resembles a dress.  There's no place around here to buy anything like that anyway.

But LOOK!!  I haven't been able to fit in these pants for over three years!!!  WOOHOO!  Ten pounds down and ten to go!!  I can't believe it!  Mostly I was excited I could actually BREATHE with them on!!

And so off I went to the appointed destination.  Talk about out of the way.  I didn't even know this place was still open!  I parked and realized I was about ten minutes early.  I sat and watched a large variety of birds coming to rest on this fence.

If the fence and property look like this, you can imagine what the restaurant looks like.  Oh yes, we are out in the boondocks.

He arrived ... we sat down ... and were completely ignored by the waitress for about 30 minutes.  No kidding ... no one ever said the service was good!

On the other hand, it gave us time to discuss the accounting questions I had.  We're talking non-profit entity tax stuff here.  That's when things got off the subject.

No ... not what you think.  He travels quite a bit to places like Brazil, Spain and France.  He said don't bother going to France because they don't like you, nor will they talk to you unless you speak traditional French.  His daughter went to school there, so she spoke the language, but he noted they were pretty rude people.

Spain is much better ... but don't go there speaking Mexican Spanish, though they are much more likely to help you out if you get lost.  I'll put that in my notebook.  No, I have no interest in going overseas any more.

Brazil was another interesting place he said, but they only speak Portuguese ... and not the same Portuguese they speak here.  Yeah, that's not on my list either, but it was interesting to hear about it.

Then he got to the part where he's part owner of a hotel in San Francisco.  NICE ... except under our current governorship, the place OUTSIDE the hotel has turned into a dump from homeless sleeping in the doorways.  Most all of the businesses around the hotel have disappeared.  No, he did not mention that part.

It was also interesting to hear that the top floors are part of a time-share type thing, with gorgeous remodeled rooms and nice views.  The bottom floors are rented out as regular hotels do, and are actually owned by THREE different corporations.  All something I have not heard of before ... and I used to spend a lot of time there.

To make it ever more interesting, they had a death there last year.  Not a particularly nice one either.  Sorry, I can't go into any more details until it goes to court.  I guess that adds to the ambience.  Well that was interesting ... oh the things you learn when having lunch in the boondocks outside a tiny town.

Our business over, we agreed to meet at least once a month to make sure our lodge donations are made and received correctly.  I'm up for that since he's buying.

Back home, I made a wrong turn walking across the driveway and ended up at the locked front door.  Oh LOOK!  This poor plant (I have no idea what it is) that I was sure died a horrible death last year, has not only revived itself, but is blooming like crazy!  What a shock!!  Truly, I thought it was a goner!

That reminded me I had not checked the squash yet.  Silly I know, to be so excited about something actually growing in my vegetable garden of three square feet.  LOOKY HERE!  This is a BIG BEAUTIFUL FLOWER ... meaning there is a nice zucchini soon to be harvested.

So seriously, getting old means you are thrilled to find a vegetable growing in your flower bed?  Is this what it comes down to?  Somehow this is not what I had in mind when I was thinking retirement!!

And so I'm inspired to head out to the mall an hour down the road ... maybe take a side road to the foothills and find a hole-in-the-wall restaurant for lunch.  After all, I've got three whole days off before our Honor Guard celebrates Memorial Day with a backyard barbecue.  Now THAT'S more up my alley!!

  6. Hard to tell from the picture but your plant might be a plumbago/leadwort. I have them here in Texas.
