Tomato Overload

Just a little reminder that in California I don't have to deal with THESE guys!!  No looking around the room as I enter to see if one is hanging off the ceiling (yes it happened) and no worrying about Mr. Cooper.  No checking the sheets every night to see if one wants to cuddle up.

When Miss Jessie was alive, she was apparently stung in the chest.  I had to douse her with medicine every day for quite some time.  She even lost all the hair around that spot.  Luckily she was not allergic.

Or maybe it was this guy that got her.  There were so many different kinds around, that any one of them could have been the culprit.  Once I put that foamy stuff around all the pipes coming up through the floor, I wasn't bothered quite so much by them.  This guy was about 4 inches across hanging on the bathroom wall.  The worst thing I have here is mosquitos and flies.  And not many of those!!  Oh wait ... I have ants.

So when I went outside to the gate controller and took the cover off, I wasn't worried about getting stung or spider bit, nor snake bit for that matter.  YAY!

This is just crazy.  I mean really ... all of this just to get one clicker to turn on the motor and open the gate?  I turned it off, did a reset ... nothing.  I went in the garage, double checked the GFI and it was just fine with a nice green light.  I reset it anyway ... just to be sure.

Back at this mess, I turned it back on and reset it once more.  Nothing ... nada.  All I get with the clicker is a CLICK.  How frustrating.  I guess I will call them today.  Surely they have upgraded this monster to something more modern.

In the meantime, I thought about finishing up that Yellowstone quilt ... and the other one that needs a border ... but I wasn't in the mood.  Some days you just don't feel like it.  Instead, I wandered the back yard aimlessly, looking for something to harvest.

I have to admit, this Cherry Bing or Bing Cherry, whatever it's called, plant is growing like a weed.  It's three times the size of when I bought it.  The others have at least doubled in size.

And looky here ..... I SEE RED!!  Just look at those babies!

The rest of this plant ... not so much.  That day it almost died made quick work of the blossoms, so it had to start all over.  There's a cute little green one on the bottom left.

This one is going bananas, but I don't know the name of it.  It would behoove me to put the little name tag in the pot so I know for next year.  The third one ... the chocolate tomato ... has about three little round green things.  Note to self ... don't buy that one next year.

I spent 30 minutes watering them, mostly because I was getting rid of the ants.  That is one critter I have around here that likes to invade every space.  No worries, I don't have them in the house, but outside in the garden ... they are everywhere.

I've seen it many times before ... they crawl up inside of pots and set up housekeeping in the cool damp soil.  It's quite entertaining to turn the water on and watch them scramble to safety.  Of course there's no safety because I'm just waiting to drown every single one of them.  I know ... that's a terrible attitude ... but I hate ants!!

What about the squash?  Just look at this zucchini!  It's growing like a weed!  I'm just waiting for those pretty orange flowers to appear.

All is well in the garden ... except for absolutely everything else needs to be trimmed and sheared.  I'll hit up the gardener for that tomorrow.

This morning ... well this morning is Gear Up For Bingo time.  The good news is we are nowhere NEAR a full moon and my trainee has already called to say she is going to be there.  WOOHOO!!

  1. No thanks, you have way too many things that will bite, poke and try and kill you! I will stay up north where those things cannot survive the winter.

    1. Don't you have rattlers up there? In Arizona, winter time isn't bad because they all hide. Around here, I have nothing to worry about and I love it!

  2. Tomatoes look fantastic!
I just came in from spraying for fleas, the coast is notorious for them.
    Happy Bingo Tuesday!

    1. You know they used to be pretty bad here too, but I haven't seen any in ages! I did hear ticks are making a comeback ... but mostly in the foothills.

  3. Always amazed at how easy it is to grow food in the valleys (Sacramento and San Joaquin) here in California. Planted tomatoes in Arkansas and two days later they died due to Cutworms that ate the stalk...put aluminum around the stalks on my next planting and they grew...but nothing like the ones we grew when I was a kid.

    1. True ... we used to grow REAL tomatoes. Nowadays they are hybrid this and special that ... none of which grow or taste the same.

  4. I think widows are out there, but they hide very well during the day. I rarely if ever, see them.
