Dad joke ... and there aren't even any dads in the house. I'm afraid to say I wish it would warm up a tad, because I'm sure it will be scorching hot soon. Every morning I go outside and "feel" the air. Do I wear shorts? Levis? Ski pants? You just never know.
Yesterday it was Levis and a flannel shirt. The good news is that I haven't killed a single tomato plant!! The one on the left has doubled in size since I planted them. Woohoo!!
I'm sure you know what THIS is. I spent the morning trimming up Mr. Cooper. It's pretty time consuming since I can't use the clippers any more. He has too many little growths on his back. I've never had a dog with this problem before, poor baby. So scissors it was.
Still a little scruffy around the edges, but it's the best I can do. He's wearing his one sock outside because he decided to try and eat his foot for dinner. Maybe an ant bite?
I was still trying to recover from eating out FOUR days in a row. I felt pretty miserable, so I sat on the couch and stitched the binding down on this quilt. Gee ... only three more sitting on the longarm to be quilted, then three more days on the couch binding. This week I HAVE to get to the next town up and see a gal about some embroidery.
In case you were not aware, the first weekend in May is time for the Kentucky Derby. I'm really not into horse racing, but when you're sitting on the couch, it's entertainment. This one was an edge of your seat run. Sovereignty was second to last after the first stretch, the guy on the rail with the blue helmet. Journalism was right up front ... one of the picks to win.
From that spot to the finish line, he passed ALL those horses and WON THE RACE. That is one crazy FAST horse. I couldn't believe my eyes. It looked like his feet never touched the ground.
Here he is completely covered in mud. As you can see, it had rained a LOT and the track was in terrible condition. I have to say, I would NEVER run any horse I rode in mud and water like that. They can slip and fall SO EASILY. I don't know how the horse could even see.
I was standing up when he crossed the finish line. The horses picked to win, did not. BUT ... Render Judgement finished seventh. It was Toby Keith's dream to run his horse in the Derby ... and even though he wasn't there to see it, I'm sure he was upstairs jumping up and down.
If nothing else, it's fun to watch the crazy outfits ... weird looking hats and "fashionable" dresses, including purple pinstripe suits for the men. By the way, the first Derby was run in 1875. The winner was Aristides. Crazy names for these horses ... some of my horses were Cricket, Polly, Pico, Remy. Now it's Citizen Bull, Luxor Cafe, Neoequos (???), Coal Battle, Tiztastic, Chunk of Gold and Owen Almighty.
I ended the day with yet another package of thawed smoked ham. NOT on my diet is scalloped potatoes from Costco. If I don't eat them up, they will end up in the trash. Maybe today I'll get to the store for a package of seven bean soup mix.
Hope you have a great day!! MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU because the FIFTH will bring you TACOS!!
Bless Toby Keiths heart! He was my fav.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
Frances:)
Same here ... I'm glad the family followed through with his horse.
DeleteThat's a lot of hair from a little puppy dog! I wish we could cut Gibbs' hair but no way will he sit still enough,. He'd look ridiculous even though it would save us $90!
ReplyDeleteThat would have been an exciting race! Wow!
It takes a lot of time clipping with scissors, and it never comes out nice and smooth, but he doesn't seem to care!! LOL
DeleteChunk of Gold is a local horse here in Cincinnati. They were hoping for him to do good as I am sure each owner was also. I am not too much into horse racing either but you can get caught up in the hype! Cooper is a cutie. I miss having a horse but glad I don't have to tote water, hay and straw in freezing weather any more. But I loved my horses. Becky
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of action with Chunk of Gold. You know horses though .. they have good days and bad. It's really not who can run the fastest, but who feels the best on this day. I totally agree .. LOVED my horses, but they truly are a lot of work.
DeleteDid you hear that EVERY horse Derby was a descendant of Secretariat???
ReplyDeleteI DID .... pretty awesome! I saw Secretariat run. He was an amazing horse, to be sure!!
