Thin Mints Do NOT Work

Weather report:   Low of 55, with a lovely high of 75.  It's going to be a nice day in the Central Valley hood.

The news has been interesting of late ... everything about food you didn't want to know.  Apparently the reason most everything doesn't taste as good as when you were a kid is due to all the additives the big production food people are hiding in plain sight.  I've mentioned it before ... this doesn't taste the same as I remember.  I thought that was just me.

NOW we learn the manufacturers are putting things in that can be addictive, so you will buy and eat more?  That's kind of a shocker!!  It certainly explains why there were no overweight kids in my grammar school ... but look now.  Then again, we were always outside playing to keep from having to do housework or empty the garbage.  We didn't sit on the couch with phones and X-boxes.

And apparently you have to eat TWO boxes of Thin Mints for them to work.

Here's a little more on Luke Bryan's Farm Tour.  Great idea to help out local FFA groups, though I don't know if they really ended up with any money.  Apparently 20,000 people were expected.  That's a lot to stuff into a small space like this, especially when all you have are two little two-lane roads to get there and only two entrances.

Parking was crazy at $40.00 each because most everyone who bought tickets missed the "click here" for $20.00 parking.

A sea of humans for as far as the eye can see.  Apparently they didn't have enough people at the gates, and entry was slow.  SO slow that it took most of the folks over 3 hours just to get on the tarmac.  Hundreds of unhappy campers just turned around and left, even after paying the ticket price.  Tickets ran from $86 to $436 each.

Two other performers played for two hours, before Luke's one hour show, which was over by 10:00.  Unfortunately they parked everyone facing the wrong direction, so most folks didn't even get out of the parking lot until 3:00 am.  I love country music, but not quite THAT much.

Friday there was another concert just down the highway ... and one more tonight.  Make hay while the sun shines!!  I did notice he rides around in a HUGE beautiful RV.

I, on the other hand, was more interested in what was keeping the gophers out of my back yard.  I haven't seen the foxy kids in some time now, but I imagine the big house built next door took away their habitat.  On very rare occasions, I've seen this black kitty hiding in the weeds, so I decided to give him a little snack.

We have five wild kitties in the area that I think the locals keep fed.  I guess I'll do my part for this guy.

While outside, I checked the growy things.  These tomatoes ... WOW!  They are now twice the size of when I started.  The little tomatoes are getting bigger and bigger, but nothing is turning red.  What's up with that?  Maybe it's too early.  The zucchini is over a foot high already.  I can't wait to see little orange flowers.  So far my black thumb has been kept at bay.

It was another day of recouping and getting rid of that naggy headache I had.  I tried to push the Do Not Procrastinate button, but I think it's broken.  I did finally get up enough gumption to finish the binding on yet another quilt.  I now have eight of these completed, with five more half done.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  At least I hope that's a light and not just a train heading straight for me!  This one is my favorite.

Time to get my act together.  I'm taking one of those quilts to the fabric shop for quilting.  I'm afraid the embroidery is too thick for my machine ... and I'd rather they break theirs than I break mine.  Oh ... and Mr. Cooper needs a bath.  His least favorite thing to do, next to going to the Vet, which is next week.  I've been saving my pennies for that one!!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!!

  1. You are so right about foods not tasting the same. Reeses Peanut Butter cups don't taste like the used to.

  2. Back in late 70's I went to a few Hangtown Motocross events...took 3 hours to get out of the parking lot! Very frustrating at the time... especially for my brother who told his wife he would be home by 6:30...hell we were still in the parking lot at 6:30!

  3. Some foods seem to have a lot of added stuff and I wonder why, I have seen on YouTube clips comparing American food to say food from Europe and the U S have a lot more stuff added. That was one packed event and $40 for parking is a bloody lot. That quilt is so lovely.

    2. Isn't that interesting. I heard about Europe not allowing hundreds of additives that are in American food. And we've been eating it all our lives!

  5. That's too bad about the concert. I'm surprised it wasn't better planned. LOL They've had enough practice.
It is a beautiful quilt. Too funny about the slim mints as my friend, Erma, from Park Place sent that poster to me this morning!

  6. Mr. Ed Said. It’s a chemicals called opioids.", the body releases a neurochemical called dopamine witch "tag," (Or Trip triggers )figuratively poking your body and saying, "'Oh, go do that again! That's something that you should eat again. That's something that you should do.' It has to do with motivation and with learning,
You remember the LAYS commercial for potato chips that says you can’t eat just one How many did you eat? Have you ever watched TV and see an ad for ice cream candy pizza popcorn all the food you don’t need to eat those are called trip trigger food .When you were young, you went to the drive-in or the movie theater and during the intermission, you Had a craving for hotdogs, hamburgers, popcorn, soda, cotton, candy, but what you did see see was what they call a subliminal cut. Just before the intermission, there was one picture Frame of all of the items mentioned The brain absorbed it, and saw it, but your eyes did not . It was very common in the Movie projectors reel . it was very common to trick you back, then . Today go to any grocery store. Everything is psychologically strategically placed to trip that trigger and spend money to buy. You look at the packaging and buy You spent the money ( see it worked)

    1. Oh I know it works, for sure. They would make us all sick eating their product, just to sell more of it. I knew about the TV and movie ads. I worked in a theater at age 15 and was told all the secrets. Terrible that they have now included so much bad stuff in our food just for the sake of money.
