The SAFE Room

It was Bingo Tuesday.  That's probably all I need to say.  I am once again exhausted.  It's a good thing I don't have to do this again.  The King will be back on U. S. soil in a few hours, making Nancy a very happy camper.

I started the day early with Mr. Cooper on a walk, just before the sun came up.  It's the only cool time of the day.  The good news is that Mother Nature turned down the heat a tad and we will be in the high 80's the rest of the week.  Thank goodness!!

This is what happens when Cooper gets scared by the garbage can.  I imagine that's his failing eyesight.  Once he thinks something is there, it's a race back to the house.

Our down-the-street walks may be coming to an end.  On the other hand, he almost made friends with Kitters.  Luckily, she doesn't run when he lunges towards her.  Nor does he follow my instructions of Cooper COME HERE ... but at least he isn't chasing her across the yard.

I really did try to suck up all the strength and sleep I could before heading to the Castle, but it wasn't enough.  I signed checks, tried to clear up a ticket mess and otherwise stayed out of trouble the best I could.

That's when I got smart.  I made a beeline for the safe.  This is where everything Bingo is stashed until needed.  The boxes of regular games are just the right height for a chair.  It's nice and cool inside and no one EVER thinks to look for me there.

In no time, we were off and running.  It was my BIG mistake not to double check that the Infernal Machine had its brain erased before we started.  That darn thing can cause more trouble!!  When it came time to figure out how much to pay out on jackpots, it said we had 213 people.  That's impossible.  Sure enough, I look at the bottom, and it showed $5,000 worth of payouts before we even started.

So NOW ... there's no way to tell just how much we sold the week before, in order to determine how much we sold THIS night so I could figure out how much to pay.  I screamed in my head.  Okay, I did the math and we had 114 people, so I took a wild guess at $200 for the early bird games and $250 for everything else.  Time would tell if I was even close.

Let the games begin!!  We sold pull tabs like ... well ... like that snail crossing my sidewalk at the front door.  Definitely a diversion from last week.  Things just were not going as planned.  I had the caller begin the first two games.  At the end, I walked out with ten cards left in my hand.  IF YOU BUY THESE, WE CAN PLAY THIS GAME!  Gone ... they were gone in a flash!!

I took a quick break for some sustenance.  Chicken tenders ... fried frozen ... cold in the middle.  No one ever said volunteer cooks were any good at it.  The cupcake ... AMAZING!

With a little more energy, I brought out two more games that sold in less than 10 minutes.  All in all, nine games were sold.  You just never know how it's going to go.

The good news ... the King returneth!  I knew he missed our lovely faces.  I started getting texts from him about 8:00 (I think that was 5 am his time).  How's it going?  How many games did you sell?  Did everyone show up to help?  How much did you pay out?  Yup .... he misses the Castle.

I headed to the safe and made up our next order which looked something like this.

2 Card Shark                2 Heavenly Hog                 2 Hot Flash                1 Lucky Charm
1 Lucky Unicorn          1 Hawg Slots                     2 Blazing Balls

You get the idea.  And then it was time to figure out the Infernal Machine.  I made a few calculations, said a few bad words and came up with $300 profit.  If you count it the way I explain, you can be done in ten minutes.  That didn't happen.  Nor did she make up the final four payouts the normal way.

We always use lots of bills in case there's a three or four way tie.  She used four bills, which meant I had to run into the safe and completely destroy our count in order to make change.  Big sigh ... this too shall pass.

At long last we shut the lights off and were headed out the door.  But WAIT ... I have to set the alarm.  It just would NOT cooperate.  DOOR OPEN.  We checked ALL the doors several times.  At long last it said READY.  Yup ... so was I.

Once outside, we had to stand there until the beeping stopped to make sure it was a done deal.

Home Sweet Home ... and I'm exhausted ... but I have company coming and accounting to catch up on.  Maybe I can sleep tomorrow!!!

Oh ... and I walked 4.98 miles and went up 6 flights of stairs!  If nothing else, I'm getting in better shape!!
