The Couch Tradition

Yesterday was a momentous day.  I did absolutely NOTHING!!  I've had nothing days before, but yesterday was epic.  I didn't clean the house ... I didn't do laundry ... I didn't mess with the sprinkler system (although I probably SHOULD have) ... I didn't even cook.

What I DID do was try out Mike's Hard Lemonade ... Black Cherry flavor.  You know those Elks raffles they have at every single dinner meeting?  I actually won a case of this stuff.  I'd rather won a case of Pepsi, but not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I accepted it with a smile.  Now I just have to find someone to dump it on .... I mean someone to gift it to.

Last night I tried the first bottle with my leftover lemon chicken.  I must say it didn't quite meet my expectations.  The two flavors clashed dramatically!!  The fizz of what first tastes like kool-aid, then turns into a terrible rendition of black cherries, did nothing for the lemon/cream chicken.  But wait ... there are three more flavors to try!!

In the old days of motorcycles and ride all day, put yourself away wet, I downed a few Jack Daniels lemonades that were considerably tastier.  Being a biker chick doesn't make you a hard drinker ... I always went for the sissy drinks.  This was not one of them.  Surely I can find SOMEONE who will drink just about anything!!
I spent almost all day working on my needlepoint.  Having finished quite a bit, I was feeling pretty accomplished.  That's when I fell asleep and missed the Giants baseball win over Atlanta.  It's a great city Atlanta ... my friend from work, his brother and I flew there to watch the Giants win the playoffs for the World Series.

We left a game in San Francisco and drove to San Jose where we spent the night in the airport.  Yeah, that was loads of fun as we listened to the "suspicious luggage" warning every ten minutes!!  We arrived at our hotel to a staff of Atlanta Braves fans who booed us every time we walked by.

After visiting the World of Coca Cola Museum (taste testing 200 drinks sold around the world) and then walking through Centennial Olympic Park water fountains where kids play, we screamed at the top of our lungs when the Giants WON the series and were off to the final show.  Upon arriving back at the hotel, we gave everyone a pretty hard time about us winning.  They were all good sports!!

If you ever go to Atlanta, be sure and check out Coca Cola.  They have drink dispensers with samples of the best sellers from all over the world.  Some taste wonderful ... some pretty bad, like Mike's Hard Lemonade.

As for sleeping on the couch, it may become a tradition in my house.  For the second night in a row, I had a WONDERFUL night's rest, in spite of the tight quarters with two puppies.   I'm going to do this more often!!

So today is D-Day for Jessie's leg dressings.  The zebra stripes will be removed shortly, if I can keep her still enough.  In the absence of dressings, I've cut up an old T-shirt and found my horse wrap to keep it in place.  The stitches are all dissolvable and should be gone in a week or so.  I'm not looking forward to this.  Miss Jessie is the weirdest dog I've known.  She's become terribly attached to those dressings and doesn't want them removed.  It's a hoarding kind of thing.
With just a few days until we are launched off into the wild blue yonder again, I really need to get cracking on the last of the packing and tire pressure checks (one of my least favorite things to do).    Did I ever tell you about that time the tire exploded?

  1. Congrats on the wash job. Your picture proves we need to get on the roof for an examination periodically. The first question is whether the rest of the seal is intact. It looks pretty warn and seems to be separating from the roof and the cap. You need to remove all the loose stuff. Then clean it well. Dicor has a putty tape product that comes in a coil. It is about 2 inches wide. Just unroll it and apply to the area needed. Press down very firmly then remove the tape. You now have a flexible seal over the seam. Then take either the Dicor sealant and brush it over the entire seam, repaired portion as well as the unrepaired section, or you could use the Dicor self leveling product instead of the Dicor sealant. The self leveling product is much heavier and thicker. It is basically what you have sealing the other holes in your roof like the skylight over your shower. I once had to use the tape and sealant to cover a rip in my rubber roof that was about 8 by 12 inches. The tree limb was closer to the ground than I thought is was.
It isn't a bad idea to use the Dicor sealant to cover any iffy sections of other seams on your roof. I have found Dicor sealant at Lowes, but you may have to go to Camping World for the coiled putty and self leveling sealant. Until you can get the good stuff I would use duct tape if you are expecting rain. Good luck. Jim M

    1. Thank you SO much!! I'm pretty sure I can fix it with your instructions Jim. Luckily we're heading into summer, so I hope there won't be any rain!!

  2. I've had the normal Mike's, but not the other flavors, and yes...it does lack in flavor and kick. With this diet I am confined to Michelob Ultra, 2.6 carbs a can, and it substitutes for a Atkins bar when I do. Poor Dave....(but as Marcia says, Scotch has zero carbs)

  4. Jessie's fondness for the dressings could be because of the support they provide. Thinking about a sport support for your knees might help you visualize this.

    1. That's definitely possible Linda, but knowing how possessive she is of everything, it's probably a little of both!

  5. Jessie probably thinks that as soon as you take the bandages off her legs will start hurting which they will. They are presently acting like a pressure stocking which feels good to her and she doesn't care that she'll heel better when the air hits the wounds.
Save the Hard stuff to offer to guests at Happy Hour. Make it look as if you like it and hope they don't gift you another case.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.
