Toledo, Devils Churn and Walport ... Oregon!!

With the fog still hanging around, Patty and I took off for a quick jaunt to the small town of Toledo, about seven miles inland.  A rather unusual day, it was sunny on the ground and foggy at the top of the bridge.
A quick stop at Aquarium Village resulted in a surprise ... a huge yarn shop amid lots of cutesy buildings selling everything imaginable.  This big guy was the centerpiece.  It looked like this had been a storage facility ... and some enterprising individual made it into small shops!!
I kept feeling like someone was looking over my shoulder the entire time we were here.  I think it was this guy ...  We found a glass blowing studio that lets you make something yourself.  You KNOW I'm going back there!!
There was nothing in Toledo to get excited about ... a very small town on a hill, they were having a festival of sorts with local artists selling their jewelry and veges.  The local quilt shop had packed up most of the "good" stuff for the quilt show in Newport.  Of COURSE we're going ... did you have any doubt????

We listened to an annuity sales pitch for a free chicken fried steak dinner at Thousand Trails North Lodge.  No thanks ... been there, done with that!!  Food was great though!!

Next morning Patty and I hit the Quilting By The Sea show in Newport and spent three hours looking at amazing quilts and about 20 vendors.  We found several pieces we couldn't live without and chalked up another to our world's record!!  With the sun finally peaking out from the fog, we headed to Cape Perpetua.  What a view!!!  You can see Highway 101 from here!!
This is looking down on the Devil's Churn ... you can see the trail we walked down after leaving this viewpoint.
The flowers here are beautiful, even those in the middle of dead grass!!!
Down at Devils Churn, we hiked down the trail to the edge of some very dangerous water.  If they could harness this power, electricity would be MUCH cheaper!!  This sign says to watch out for Sneaker Waves .. so Dan was keeping an eye out!!
The tide was coming in, making it much more dramatic ... and scary!!
This cut in the rock extends way up into the mountain, narrowing as it goes ... I definitely see where it got its name!!!
Dan braved the entire length!!
All around us are blueberries.  Patty took a taste, but couldn't convince me to try them.  Wild blueberries are pretty bitter ... not at ALL like the store variety.
More flora and fauna ... the under side of the ferns are covered in spores ... making for a dense undergrowth.
On the way back, we finally found the only fabric shop in Waldport.  The City Council needs to check those street numbers ... they go from 420 to 450 to 202 ... and at the far end of town, 385.  Go figure!!  They suggested the pizza place for clam chowder ... uhhhh the pizza place???  $8.95 later, the salad was awesome, the chowder bad and the garlic rolls delicious.  We actually went all day without halibut and chips ... I'm betting we don't make that mistake again!!!
