Cruising the Coast of Oregon!!

True to it's reputation, the Pacific Coast is shrouded in fog in July and August!!  Although the sun has tried to peek through in the mid afternoon, it has not been sunny enough for Cape Perpetua's sweeping ocean vistas.  We drove north anyway, driving down every road and alley looking for adventure.

First stop was Cape Foulweather, named by Captain Cook ... for obvious reasons ... foul weather.  This historical house, now gift shop, sits on top of a hundred foot cliff.  Talk about sweeping vistas ... this house has it!!
Looking south from the house is this lighthouse on the end of a long narrow spit.
Further north in Depoe Bay, we crossed a beautiful concrete bridge where this sign says it's the smallest harbor in the world.  We think we saw a smaller one in Ninilchik Alaska!!  Apparently this one suffered the same low tide fate of grounded boats until it was dredged to allow for low tide exiting.
This is actually the harbor entrance ... not very wide through solid rock ... with the small harbor in the background.  Lots of fishing boats were coming and going while we watched.  A couple of small rubber boats went out with passengers encased in life preservers ... not my cup of tea!!!  Give me a BIG boat please!
From the walkway on the bridge, you can look over at two guys filleting the morning charter's catch.  Everyone getting off the boat had a large basket of fish.  In record time, these two cut off all the good stuff and bagged it up.  We didn't see anything very big .. this was about the average catch.
Below the two guys however, were some beggars just waiting for tidbits to be thrown their way.  They didn't get much because the seagulls usually beat them to it ... but one guy was nice enough to throw them a piece or two.
Two adults and one baby hung out the entire time they were cleaning.
If you look for it, you can find the original (very narrow) Highway 101 and this beautiful concrete bridge.  I just watched a show about the pitfalls of concrete and the rusting rebar when water gets in.  They think they have found the answer with this bridge ... applying some kind of electroplating or anodizing with zinc ... Dan can probably explain it better!!
There are flowers everywhere on the coast, some natural and some planted in hanging pots.  These just make you smile!!
On the way back, we again stopped at our South Beach Market for halibut and chips (third day in a row) trying to eat so much I won't like it any more.  Doesn't seem like that's going to happen however ... it's just TOO good!!!

My $5.00 car wash permit was about to expire, so with Dan's help reaching the very top above the front windshield, I cleaned the front end.  He waxed the top for me and touched up a couple paint spots, because even with the ladder, I'm a little short on one end.  It looked beautiful ... until the heavy fog started dripping like rain.  I'm parked under a large tree (ugh) and it sounded like hard rain all night.  Tonight is a free chicken fried steak dinner if we listen to a talk about annuities ... I already know I hate annuities ... but I LOVE chicken fried steak!!!
