You know what this pictures means ... we are back at Bingo for a night of rousing cheers and squabbles. The Magic Castle of Bingo brings it out in everyone!!
But first ... I'm still watering those tomatoes every single morning. That douse of fertilizer worked pretty well, although this seems to be pretty late in the season. The little ones are coming on once again. By the way, the game camera came up empty. Someone mentioned Kitters, and I'm thinking maybe she got sick on something. Seems to be perfectly fine now however!
I did the normal stuff ... paid some bills, sewed a few squares together and had dessert for breakfast. When lunch came around, I was stumped. What? No BACON? No more leftover pasta? Oh darn ... I had to make a garlic sourdough bread grilled cheese with tomatoes. Burned the roof of my mouth in its consumption, but it was worth every bite.
In a flash I was headed off to the lodge. They had not been able to do the reconciliation on the money made at the Shrimp Feed. There was a little tweaking going on until the final number came up. We made a whopping $8,275. That's the PROFIT. Woohoo ... it was worth all that cussing and refereeing.
Then I actually had to go to work. My Fairy Godmother watched as I set up the entire Bingo machine and all eight televisions. Talk about a rats nest of technology!! I took pictures all along the way so hopefully I can remember everything next week when she is gone. If nothing else, I have her on speed dial.
Then it was on to picking the pull tab games to play for the night. Every week it's NINE games, with one box paying out $1199 guaranteed. Now you know why they play.
Let the games begin! Immediately, a peasant came through the door and sat down at a table. We all knew she was NOT a member, so that's not allowed. Though she was told to leave, she had no intention of doing so. I guess she thought her ethnicity would solve the problem. Ummmmm that would be a NO. We finally had to get one of the Knights to escort her from the room. We have RULES!!
Turns out it was QUARTERS night. Everyone breaks open their kids piggy banks and comes in with ziplok bags of change to pay for their cards. It amazes me how many try to pass off nickels as quarters, and oh yes, we get lots of Canadian money that gets tossed right back. Sorry Canada!
Thankfully, my new Infernal Machine Operator showed up. Lookie here ... I'm not sitting in the hot seat. At this point the singing began. It was someone's birthday which was celebrated with flaming torches and an off key melee!!
Lucky me, the King showed up, so I got to call the Pull Tabs on this day. I haven't done that in a few weeks now and was VERY nervous. The pitchforks came out for an instant when I called the numbers 5 and 2 instead of 52. You have to do it both ways, and of course I did it backwards. $3,500 was paid out in 30 minutes. Now you know why they bring in their quarters for a chance to win.
Finally free for a bit, I wandered around upstairs just to get away from the noise. Here's the bar, full of four volunteers that I did not see on the floor. Wait, what?? You guys hide out up here?? Notes were taken!!
I wandered through the kitchen making sure they were doing okay since we just fired the person who was in charge. Being overly rude to customers, members and volunteers alike was tolerated much longer than it should have been. I admit I was the catalyst behind that, but sometimes you just have to fire someone to make it better. The kitchen is now Happyland with people volunteering right and left. Oh what a difference THAT made.
That's when I spotted this. People who cook a lot might recognize the box. I did .... INSTANTLY.
Hey Patty ... look at this box of Penzeys spices we were just talking about!! What's this doing here? Apparently it was part of a raffle prize that was not wanted. I jumped on that like Cooper on a treat!! I'LL TAKE IT!! There's probably $45 worth of spices here. Winner winner chicken dinner ... and I just happen to have chicken thawing in the fridge!!
I spent the next hour with my new replacement, gathering intel. She travels a lot up the coast of California, staying mostly in hotels, but was full of information on where I might park the van, even if it was at a Bed and Breakfast. SCORE!!
At long last, after helping the cashier balance and put things away, I was finally out the door at 10:00. Though I was asked out to breakfast this morning, those long days are killer. I declined.
I'll be on the couch with my computer looking up those camping spots.
Bingo night was a success!! Spices are nice and when you retire from Bingo Night you can hang out in the bar with the others!! (coke with a lime is refreshing!) Hope you find some parking spots near the coast.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Bingo night went well.
ReplyDeleteBig score on the spices, they are very expensive these days.
Hope you find a nice spot to set up camp.
Frances:)
