Dazed and Confused

Good Morning my friends ... and welcome to the land of van camping.  It was a wonderful night of great sleep and puppy cuddles.  Okay, you know that's not true ... since most of my latest and greatest plans don't seem to work out that well.

Here's Kitters, looking spiffy after having had 2 pounds of kitty hair brushed off her body.  She's also gained quite a bit of weight.  Time for that Vet appointment.  By the way, I never open the door that she is not right there, or snoozing in the bushes to the right.  She comes running every single time.

First things first, as always, water and check the tomatoes.  I admit, I'm getting rather tired of this routine.  I suppose it's the variety ... or how they have been altered by scientists and chemistry over the years, but they just do NOT taste like the tomatoes of old.  I'm thinking next year I need to look for some Beefsteaks.   That's what we used to grow on the ranch and the flavor was totally different than these.

I was literally a couch potato until 11:00 when I headed off to my third job ... accounting once again.  This time I was a little confused and frustrated.  The program supposedly expired and tried to require me to SIGN UP for a costly replacement.  The worst part, it would not let me into the program at ALL.

I messed with that for an hour before finally being able to bypass stuff.  As I've said before, I'm a MAC girl and haven't used windows in 17 years.  That's a long time to remember how to work on a completely different kind of computer operating system.

My client is a 92 year old who still handles eight rentals.  Poor sweetheart sat on the couch while I spent over three hours getting her up to date.  From now on, I'll go more often!

With that done, I used GREAT restraint as I drove PAST Hobby Lobby on the way home.  There was a method to my madness.  They are closed on Sundays, so that gives me one more day to talk myself out of those skeletons I want to hang on my front door.

The rest of the afternoon, I watched the PENDLETON RODEO Finals.  Here's a quick clip of what happens to the PVC bull fence.  It starts out bad, but keep watching.  It gets better, then repeats the best part of it.  The three guys in weird outfits running after the bull are the bullfighters ... supermen in my eyes.  They are keeping the bulls attention away from the people running for their lives!!

Fun stuff!  Now I know YOU don't think that, but if you're a cowboy or a cowgirl ... this is FUN STUFF!!  This is what made us scream and laugh on the ranch for years to come, as long as it wasn't US in the bulls path!!

And then it happened.  My day was completely ruined.  I'm a BAD puppy mom.  Mr. Cooper had been chewing on his back foot.  I tried to see what it was, but he was having none of it.  Just before bedtime, I reached down and rubbed the fur the wrong way.  WAIT ... there's something there!!

I held him down ... a feat in itself ... and grabbed it with my fingernails.  Out came a 1/2 inch long sticker, similar to a foxtail.  OMG that's been stuck in between his toes for two days and I never did see it.  I'm devastated he was in pain all that time.

I doctored it up, so thankful that I was lucky enough to find it before it disappeared into his paw.  Big treats followed.  There will be no more walking down that road with the stickers and foxtails.

At last it was time to head out to the rig.  I had turned everything on earlier in the day, but alas, nothing was working.  Not the charger and not the inverter.  Big sigh!  I'm just not good at this stuff.  Rather dazed and confused, I checked the fuses first ... all was okay.  I turned everything on and off several times over an hour.  I could hear the charger running, but the touchpad would not turn it off.  It said Not Charging.

In the past, I turned everything on ... then turned the charger off at night so I could sleep.  It refused to budge.  The inverter however was working just fine.

So here we are ... all tucked in for the night.  NOT!  Good grief, in spite of all the windows being open, and it being rather cool outside, it was HOT HOT inside.  Cooper was panting like crazy and would not settle down.  I was sweating up a storm.

Okay, enough of THAT!  We went straight back to the house.  Today I'll turn everything off and on again, including the fridge (which runs on battery only) to see how long I can go before starting up the generator.  Why you ask?  Because most of these Harvest Host spots do NOT have electrical hookups, but DO allow you to use generators.

As I stepped out the door, who should be waiting but KITTERS.  I think I've created a monster here.  She was sleeping by the van door.  Now I have TWO shadows following me around.  This is not good ... what will she do when I leave for a month?

And so I sit here while drinking the last of my morning cup of joe, contemplating a grocery run today.  Hmmmm I wonder if the Spirit of Halloween stores are open on Sunday!!!

  1. Enjoyed the bull doing his zoomies! Brushing my dog - never got much fur off. Never owned a cat. How often have you used your van since buying it? Last winter with Bill and Patsy I remember!
It does look nice in the driveway though!

    1. Let's see ... Utah, Arizona, and a few shorts trips over the hill to the BIG fabric shop! Just for practice.

  2. I'll bet you were very frustrated with things not working in the Van. I know you will get it working soon.
Maybe your neighbors would feed your cat while you are gone?
    Happy Sunday!

    1. I think most times it's just operator error! Yes, hoping the neighbors will feed Kitters. I can leave out a huge bag of food, but I'm not sure it would last.

  3. Does Kitters like to ride and do you have room in the van for a small litter box?

    1. Oh no oh no ... it's hard enough with a dog and a parrot. I'm thinking adding a kitty to the mix would be a bad idea.

  4. Our CamperVan, as you know, is in a RV Storage lot next to the Condo. Ours has the ability to turn the generator on and off as programed...mine comes on when voltage drops to 11.9, runs for no less than 20 minutes...does not run between hours of 9 pm and 6 am. I have the electric fridge, and an aircard (for cameras) and the blink controller running 24/7. Most days we get sun for at least 8 hours, sometimes only 2-3 hours due to clouds/rain. The generator runs for about 1.4 hours a week on average. Don't if this helps you or not...when we are using the van, I would turn the generator off around 9 or 10 pm, and in the morning I still have anywhere from 12 to 12.2 volts.

    1. I can set the generator up on auto also ... sounds like that would work if only 90 minutes a week. The solar takes care of all of it when parked. Maybe I should set it up for when I boondock .. just to make sure the batteries stay up.

  5. That would be something to worry about when you are gone. Kitters wouldn't know what to do without you. :( Hope you can get the van figured out without too much issue. Enjoy your Sunday! :) Ken and Shirley

    1. Yeah, that's a problem, which is why you should not feed stray kitties.

  6. Kitters has indeed found a good home. And for the record you ARE a good puppy Mom. It's hard to know what is in those paws when they won't let us near. Good job getting it out. He's so cute in his little jacket.
Sorry about the van not working..........you'll figure it out, you always do.
You may be bringing Kitters along with you, so think about what Sue said. 🤔

    1. Oh I just don't think Kitters and Jonathan would get along, not to mention COOPER.

  7. Cats can travel also, just saying. Plus, they don't take up much space.

    1. I know ... BUT ... I have a parrot. This kitty and birds don't mix well.

  8. Oh golly it just doesn’t seem right leaving that sweet
Kitters for a month, she would probably be dead
    when you came home.
Take her with you, a wash at the vet and a worm pill
and she will be so happy and be a great traveling
mate. 🥰 she already wants to be by you.

    1. Sounds easy, but it won't be. Dogs, cats and birds don't mix so well.
