Is it morning yet? My brain has been stretched to the max in the last 24 hours. I knew I was taking on a huge job, but it's made harder by not knowing the accounting program inside out, mostly because it has changed so much. I try to distract myself every few hours so I don't scream. It helps that (as you know) I'm stubborn as a mule!!
You know the routine ... harvest comes first early in the morning. I dropped off twice this many on the neighbor's porch yesterday. So far they are still thanking me!!
A quick check of my swimming pool had sad results ... I definitely need to get some chlorine if I'm going to continue this pastime. At the moment, I don't have time anyway.
So here's my tip of the day. Whether you are a multi gabillionaire or a garden variety RV gal like me, you should definitely inform your spouse about all the bookkeeping you are (or are NOT) doing. Especially when you get up to our age, because soon you forget to even do it. It's the modern age ... use your computer. NOT doing that leaves you wide open to the TAXMAN when you also forget to do your taxes.
I've discovered I now have not six months of work to do, but probably much more for a huge corporation with commercial holdings all over the U.S. Yeah ... it's big!
The good news is after another four hours I figured out how to reconcile the bank account for one of the businesses, for two months. PROGRESS! Try as I might to get the setup to look like the old days, the Quickbooks link just would not work. It's frustrating to say the least. In other good news, I took my laptop with me and was able to connect to the program. That means I can take it home, keep an eye on Cooper and use a computer I'm comfortable with. Woohoo!!
I had lunch with these guys in the warehouse. Luckily they didn't make lunch of me since they are animatronic. Yes, they are shipped all over the world. I may have to buy one for my back yard.
And so I spent another nine hours yesterday, finally getting three months of data put in the program. After much yelling at my computer, I got it to reconcile. I'm on a roll now ... well sort of, because I'm constantly calling to see what these checks are actually FOR. At least I won't be sleeping with the dinosaurs!
All of that for only one business ... and there are SO many more. Please folks ... don't make an accountant go crazy trying to figure out your books, even if you are retired. Check up on your spouse occasionally to see if they are doing the work and make sure they ARE doing the work ... because in this case they were not.
I'll be back at it today, hoping to close out one account. I might be faster, but Quickbooks Online gives everyone the weekend off, so if you need help, you are out of luck.
And so I'll get to it once again!!
Oh my goodness bookkeeping can be a royal pain especially if one does not keep up with it. They are so lucky to have you.
