Nothing To See There

I'm obsessed, probably with a little crazy mixed in.  I check the zucchini every day.  There are actually not one, but TWO plants here.  The second one is throwing out blooms like crazy, but not a single zucchini.  What's up with that?  The very first little one died when the flower fell off.  Maybe it's my black thumb coming to the party.

Now THESE guys, that always look like they are dying during the summer, with brown leaves all around the bottom ..... are putting on a magnificent show of buds.  No flowers .... just lots of buds.  It's the same out front, only the buds have shriveled up and died.  What's going on?

Here it is June 1st ... the passing of yet another month.  With that came scorching hot temperatures according to the weather guessers.  I admit, it got pretty toasty since we aren't used to heat around here.  I stayed inside most of the day.  There's just nothing to do in the heat when your big mall closed down almost completely.  We used to walk the mall when it was hot.  Nothing to see there now.

Yes, Cooper and I went for a quick morning walk, but came back in a big hurry.  At 6:30 in the morning, it was just TOO sticky to be hiking.  It says 101 at 2:00, but it felt like 110 in Arizona.  The humidity was high and I couldn't seem to get my AC to stay on, even with the HOLD button.  What can I say, it's old like me.

I was having trouble with the old timer I had for the tomatoes, so I purchased this baby.  Good grief ... I guess I'm getting too old for this stuff too.  Oh I could program it, but for the life of me, I could not find the parts and pieces to hook it up to a drip line.  The connection is too big and the threads are not even close.  I tossed it on the table in disgust.  This is a MAN job.  Maybe another day, which means I'll keep watering by hand.

My next little task went MUCH better.  Someone mentioned online that they put a cutting board on the sink in the van for more counter space.  I measured it and found the perfect one.  NOT this one.  The first one didn't fit at all.

This was my second choice ... a much better one ... and it fits almost perfectly.  Surprising, yes?  It does need just a tad bit sanded down on one side, but that should be an easy task.  At least it will be when I find a GUY that has a sander.  It was a cool Amazon $15.00 find, which I'm sure anyone else can make from wood at Home Depot for a couple bucks.

Since going outside was out of the question, I whipped up some Hawaiian banana bread for the Boss Bird.  He loves this stuff.  Of course I do too, so he has to share, which is why I have to make it quite often.

That was it ... nothing at all exciting, except the Cowboy Channel is now back on air.  I'm guessing they were negotiating with the National Finals Rodeo for the cost of airing rodeos.  They've had nothing but reruns on for the last two weeks.  Sadly, we all have missed some of the best rodeos beginning the summer season.  There was nothing to see there at all.  I guess it's like everything else, it's all about the money!

Today I'll be lighting up my smoker ... or just plugging it in as the case may be ... for some smoked ribs to take to the steak BBQ this afternoon.  I'll follow that up with dropping off the baby shower gift.  Apparently I can't be in two places at the same time.

The good news ... we are looking at 85 degrees for the rest of the week.  That will be good tomato growing weather!!!

  2. Husband said your soil is probably lacking calcium. It will cause bloom ends to dry up.

    1. I haven't been interested in growing anything for so many years that I didn't think to look it up.

  4. The sink cover that comes with the vans is SO HEAVY, Marcia has me move it when she needs access to the sink...which I gladly do since THAT is my arm exercise for the day!

    1. It's crazy heavy. I took mine off the first day because I've seen sinks fall through due to the weight. It's like a chunk of concrete!!

  5. If you take the Timer with a small piece of the Drip Line to a Hardware Store, they should be able to set you up with the fittings to make it work.
You could hand sand the cutting board and it will only cost for the sandpaper itself.
    Stay Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  6. Zucchini and squash have both male and female blooms. The male blooms usually appear first, then followed by the female bloom with a fruit attached to the base of the flower. Give them some time and since your weather has taken a leap into summer that may set them back. Tomatoes don't like to set fruit once the overall Temps get too high. Keep an eye on your plants. Oh. And this advice is from back east. So California may have some different varieties. It's the YMMV type thing. My seeds did not germinate so I need to hit tractor supply tomorrow. I want some zuchini!zucchini!!

    1. Well that's news to me. I had no idea!! So that's why I see several blooms that did not result in a fruit. In all my years of growing zucchini, I never knew!!!. It should cool down a bit this week.
