Did I ever mention the earthquake that shook my house like a rag doll last week just before I came to Arizona? I haven't felt one that big in over 20 years. It was centered in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This morning, I thought maybe it was happening again!!
There have been a few rain cells flying over the top of my house here, dumping epic amounts of rain. For the most part however, there has not been much in the lightning/thunder department. It's all been up in the clouds.
Just now, things changed. At 5:30 there was a BOOM that literally shook the house, vibrating the windows and even getting Cooper's attention. The lightning flash was blinding. Arizona knows how to do thunder storms as the rain falls with more force than my shower head!! I'm hoping the game camera I set up last night survives the flood.
Here's one of the midnight raiders of the water tank. You can barely see him. Good camo, yes?
In between sewing yesterday, I whipped up some banana bread for Jonathan. He's as picky an eater as Cooper. I'm always baking something for him to eat. I probably should have provided him with a wider selection when he was a baby bird. Maybe he wouldn't be so hard to feed now. His favorites are this bread, Cole slaw and scrambled eggs. Weird for sure.
TA-DA!! I finished up this quilt last night. Every one comes out different, depending on exactly where on the fabric you cut your triangles. One circle looks like eyes looking out and the other like broken legs, but I love it!! It's just so unique and different.
Some times as I'm sewing ... when something gets frustrating that I can't figure out ... I look out the window. What should my wandering eyes see but a hummingbird nest. Please oh please let them hatch and live this time!! Once before I think a roadrunner got them. I used to like roadrunners, but now, not so much.
Between the booms and rain yesterday, I let Cooper out, but not before my usual scan for snakes. You just never know when or where they will appear. I spotted a stick on the grass. A closer look found THIS guy playing dead.
A dinosaur to be sure!! I've only seen two in all the time I've lived here, so I was pretty honored to see this guy. He never moved, not even a fraction of an inch. I took a few pictures and left him alone. Later he had moved to the palm tree, then disappeared in the yard. Oh he's still there because unless he can crawl up block walls, his 5" body is too big to fit underneath the fence gate.
Every day my plans to check out Globe and Pearce Arizona are put off due to threats of flash flooding. That's also why I've put off fixing that water line in the bathroom. I'm afraid of flash flooding!!
Have you ever felt the tingle of the electrons passing through the air as the lightening strikes? In Arkansas one hit the power pole behind the house and my hair lifted up and my skin tingled and I was inside. Of course, it took out one phase of electricity to the house when it hit the pole.
ReplyDeleteI have not Dave, nor do I ever want to!!! I do a lot of praying!!
DeleteWe have never seen a Horned Toad, what a cool sighting! As for Road Runners, they are cool but you are right, they can be vicious!
ReplyDeleteAren't they cute? Dinosaurs for sure. They blend in so well you don't usually see them.
DeleteI love that first picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you Elva ... it's hard to get good lightning pictures. That one was just a little too far away.
DeleteThe picture at the beginning is awesome.
ReplyDeleteA horned road?? Looks like a mini dinosaur!
I think they date back to the dinosaurs. Pretty cool little creatures.
DeleteThank you so much. It's certainly not the normal pattern.
