I'm terrible at making decisions. It seems the older I get, the harder it is. I changed my mind four times. The problem is the time of year. July isn't the smartest time to be traveling through the desert when temperatures are reaching 116 and up.
It is somewhat the downside of not having a Class A with a generator. You just run the generator and the AC the entire time. When you arrive, you are already cool and the kids are happy.
With a trailer, the temps in the truck cab are great as long as the engine is running. I imagine the heat inside the trailer would be more than 116, meaning it would take some time to cool down before Jonathan and Cooper could be moved inside. We would be sitting at the RV park with the truck running, making everyone around us very happy! Or not!
So I'm packing up the kids and we are OFF!!!
Be safe. Look forward to seeing the route you take.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels.
ReplyDeleteHave a good trip!
ReplyDeleteBon voyage! Yes, let us know the route you take.
ReplyDeleteToday, I rode the route that I think you are taking from Vail, AZ to Mojave, CA. In reverse, from Mojave to Barstow, to Yucca Valley to Palm Springs to Vail is approx. 585 miles. The route from Mojave to Victorville to San Bernardino to Palm Springs to Vail that you used in the past is approx. 566 miles. I think you will see that the extra 20 miles is well worth the avoidance of all of the metro traffic and construction thru the San Bernardino area.
ReplyDeleteIt was GREAT not having all that rough freeway traffic. A couple of downhills that were crazy, but a much better way to go. Thanks Dan!!
DeleteWhen we drove through remote Nevada on our way back from Oregon I thought about how one would not want to get stranded out there. Especially back in the day. Today there are plenty of travelers with someone coming by every few minutes but back in the day I could see how you could be in trouble.
ReplyDeleteThat was my thought too ... being way off the beaten track, but there was traffic everywhere. Definitely a good thing in my case.
