I hope your Valentine gets you a nice sentimental card and a box of those terrible tasting candy hearts, or better yet, chocolate dipped strawberries! YUM!! What else happens on Valentine's Day? Why it's SOMEONE'S birthday! She might get mad if I tell everyone, so keep it a secret, okay??
Look what we found over at the Chance residence! I haven't seen many critters other than a few birds, most of which I've never seen either because they are so good at hiding in the trees. I can only hear them. Spring must be on it's way however, because this little guy was out sunning himself. I wonder if they eat scorpions??
As you know, I'm not one to sit around. Oh on occasion I can sit with the best of them, but I get pretty bored watching TV. Sewing only goes so far in that department also. While waiting for the guy who does paving stones, I decided to check out the garage. These flimsy shelves needed to be removed before I filled them up with tons of junk.
I'm extremely lucky in that I even HAVE a garage. There are very few in the neighborhood and mine will actually fit TWO cars. One thing I CAN do is junk things up, so it's better if I'm organized from the beginning.
Most of the bolts holding them to the wall looked like this. I got out my trusty Harbor Freight cheapo-depot socket wrench and went to work. There were 21 of these to remove, and by the end, the socket wouldn't stay on the wrench.
TA-DA!!! All gone. I contemplated paint, but thought maybe it needs texture first? I don't think I'm going there. That's way above my pay grade. I dutifully kept every single bracket as I heard my Dad's voice ... "we should keep these just in case" ... stacking them on the OTHER side of the garage where just as many MORE shelves reside.
My plan is to get some metal shelving, transfer the good stuff, then remove THOSE junk holders. That will have to wait until next week however, because I completely stuffed the garbage can full to the brim.
The paver guy showed up and asked for the husband, who surprisingly got called away to California. He measured the entire front walkway (75 feet long) and the back patio area, as well as both sets of steps. Let me just say that paving stones are not cheap. Nor is anything else when you have an entrance that long. I'll let you know how that goes.
In the meantime, what could be better on Valentine's Day than a huge discount equal to half your age at the QUILT STORE!! Guess where WE are going this morning!!!
I'd be on my way to the Quilt store with that discount too! Happy shopping! Ken first looked at the shelving and said they were good brackets, just need heavier wood, not so long over the brackets, but when you showed the anchoring, he agreed good move to take them out and go for the metal shelving. He loves storage in his garage..haha. I hate when the lizards come out!! Just can't get used to them!
ReplyDeleteOh Shirley ... I'll take lizards any time over scorpions! Or spiders!! Those brackets are really good sturdy ones, just not put up well, not sturdy and not level!
DeleteLooks like you have some sanding to do on that drywall before painting. Always hated that job, at least it's in the garage, so you don't have to be perfect. I agree with Ken and Shirley, metal shelving would be best.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm sure the wall needs something before painting, especially since now it's full of big holes!!! LOL That rather took the wind out of my sails!
DeleteThe old shelves only needed edging to stiffen them up but metal shelves start at the floor making it easier to reach things.
ReplyDeleteShould have told the Paver guy that your wife was away. Not supposed to discriminate in this day and age. That would have him talking to you.
Be Safe and Enjoy your Valentines Day.
It's about time.
Hahahaha that's funny Rick!!!
DeleteWell, Happy Birthday to the mystery lady, whoever she is. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sized garage! Bill would love that! You know if he was closer, he would be lending a hand but you seem to have it all under control. Glad you took those rinky dink bracketted shelves down. Tough to reach and don't hold very much.
Oh no not to the quilt store. Hope you have a great Valentine's Day! And happy birthday to the mystery lady.

DeleteIt was Patty's birthday, Patsy!! I know Bill would help out ... he's so good at stuff like that. Easier I think to texture the walls ... mostly because it's not as much hard work!!!
DeleteAre you talking to Phil from Blue Ribbon? He's not tall, and is stocky and has an Israeli accent? I can not BELIEVE he wants to talk to the husband. Who does that?
ReplyDeleteYup that's Phil!! No one does that, but I think it's an Israeli thing.
DeleteI know a special lady who is celebrating a birthday today. But she's getting up there in age so she might want us to be quiet....lol. I have a little cousin whose "due date" is today, so we'll see how that goes. I loved your response to the paver guy. Smart thinking!
ReplyDeleteWell happy birthday to YOUR special lady too!! Believe it or not, we have ANOTHER Pat whose birthday is today too!!
DeleteInstead of the expensive pavers I'd go for a cement walk with color added. The color is permanent once sealed and they can do some really neat patterns.
ReplyDeleteI thought about cement but didn't know about color added. I'll check it out. Thank you!!!
