This gardening stuff is hard on an old lady. Add to that absolutely NO sleep last night. I've no idea why this time, other than I thought I heard the sprinklers running all night long. That's not possible, so I guess I'm just getting old. I thought you slept better when you got old???
Or maybe it was the SECOND day in a row that I was out the door BEFORE 9:00. That's epic for me! I was off to the sprinkler store. No walking down the aisles looking for something, when I don't even know what it is I'm looking for. This store is full of tall hunks who jump at the chance to help you. Now you know why I REALLY go there.
Anyway, I got four new sprinklers and a light wiring repair kit. Only recently did I discover why they keep giving me those plastic things in the center. The wiring kit? Oh yes, he cut the landscape lighting wires in half and tried to fix it with electrical tape. No bueno!! I guess it's up to me.
I hit up Home Depot for one more pot and the tomato cages. This little project has now cost me $86.00. I can buy a lot of veggies for $86.00.
Since I was in the area, I made a quick stop at Hobby Lobby, the only place to buy fabric within 10 miles. This will be perfect for backing on the Air Forde quilt, but hoochy mama ... it was $13.00 a yard. Pretty pricey for Hobby Lobby. Sadly, they had no other patriotic fabric in the entire store.
Hobby Lobby is like Costco. It always gets me in trouble. Of course everything is made in China, so you know what's happening there. However ... I've been looking for a tumbler to take to Bingo since they have been forced to use paper cups. How is that any different than styrofoam? The paper cups get squishy after a few minutes, collapsing like those paper straws. They also sweat a lot, so when you pick it up, there's a quarter cup of water on the table. Not kidding ... what a mess!!
No pink or flowers for me ... it's COW all the way ... or I would not have bought it at all.
Back home, I planted the last of the tomato plants. Four in all. I'll hook up the automatic water to these when I get the new tubing I ordered from Amazon. What I have is too big for the timer. So yes, we are now up to $119.00. I better get 60 pounds of groceries out of this!!
I spent the afternoon working on this quilt. It's been a nightmare. The backing the nice lady used is horribly thick since she doubled it ... and embroidered it crooked. I did my best to cut the fabric accordingly and stitched it on.
That's when I realized there is no more red for the top border, because they never USED a top border. That goes against my sense of design. Nothing I have matches that color. Big sigh. One more trip to the fabric store where hopefully I find a match. If not, it will just have a black border at the top. I will definitely be redesigning the other five.
Dinner was simple. Keto bread ... the thick one ... grilled cheese. Not bad at all, though you need a big glass of water to eat it. That bread is DRY!!!
I'm exhausted and hoping for a nap this morning before I head out to the Magic Castle. But first ... a stop at Costco to pick up a birthday cake for one of my best friends, the Knight of the Day. He just turned 81!! HURRAH!!!
The quilt looks amazing! A black border looks great!
ReplyDeleteHappy Bingo Tuesday! Happy 81st birthday to the Knight of the day!!
Frances:)
The quilt came out okay considering I didn't sew the middle part. It was a little wonky ... but will look just fine when quilted.
DeleteMr. Ed’s said $119 for hopefully a bunch of tomatoes ??And you’re ranting about a $.50 egg. ya Good thing, you didn’t plant, corn beans, cucumbers, and radishes, squash, and okra You’d be up to 700+$$
ReplyDeleteI hope you have some Dollar cost fun. It’s called your tomato’s 🍅🍅versus their🐰🐭🐦⬛🦉🐛🐛🐛🍅🍅🍅🍅 tomato’s
A good hot and cold Travel mug are the all metal ones ( Walmart Cheap )fantastic just be careful if you have something hot It’ll stay that temperature for a long time I’ve had ice stay overnight And they fit really good in a car/rv cup holder
You're right ... I'll be fighting the birds for the tomatoes! I've never had a cup like this before ... it's huge! But it sure did keep my coke cold last night!
DeleteAw Nancy, it's not the money spent in the garden center, it's the joy of seeing something grow and harvest from your own yard. But you also cannot beat the taste of sun ripe tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteThat is true Marlene ... nothing beats the flavor of those tomatoes. It's been a long time since I grew any!
DeleteWhat a nightmare with the embroidery work. She should have used light weight interfacing (fusible) instead of doubling the fabric. So hard to get a straight line when the embroidery is crocked. Bless you for doing all of these quilts.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Not sure if I should cut around every little piece or just leave the heavy stuff on. It makes the quilt pretty stiff.
DeleteWe have stainless steel travel mugs for the camper van, it keeps coffee HOT for a couple of hours, comes with stainless steel straws which get real hot too.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping this one fits ... haven't tried it in the van yet, but it sure would be nice to have a cold drink while driving.
DeleteOh but those tomatoes are going to be delicious. Happy birthday to the knight!
ReplyDeleteWell ... they are all little ones ... but I'm betting they will be yummy. Maybe next year ... big ones!
DeleteI love your joke at the top of the post. The grilled cheese looks good but the thick bread is dry, I agree. Sour dough bread (although not keto) is the best for grilled cheese, right?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't you talk one of those 'hunks' to come and help you with with the sprinklers. Just sayin', you know how to put on the charm AND no, not surprised at the cow tumbler. ♥
I love sourdough, but it doesn't love me very much these days! As for the knights ... they always come to the rescue if I ask. Good guys those knights!
