It's morning. Spring disappeared overnight. About the best I can muster is I'm still breathing on this chilly morning after a long night at the lodge. Mr. Cooper agrees we should have had at least another 3 hours of sleep!!
Update on the eagle babies ... they are still hanging out, but are now covered in REAL feathers. Mom and Dad feed them on occasion, all of which I have missed lately. The adults don't seem to stay at the nest for long. Boy are they growing FAST!! You have to stare at this for a bit to actually SEE them.
I spent the morning making yet ANOTHER quilt. I now have three ready for quilting, so that will be the project for this weekend. I think I only have 3, maybe 4 left to stitch together ... and I'll be done for the year. Of course there are still those six embroidery ones to finish up also. Lucky for me, the center squares on those are all done. This turned out to be a LOT more work than I thought.
In no time, I was off to yet another initiation at the lodge. I'm beginning to loathe these nights. Wearing a tuxedo for six hours straight is a pain in the neck. Literally. Those starchy collars and bow ties are as uncomfortable as it gets.
I started off selling tickets for Bikers night at 5:00. Yes, each lodge dinner night has a sponsor group who does most of the cooking and serving. I bet you didn't know we have a big contingency of bikers in our lodge. They are the best ... and most all of them veterans.
Oh yes ... ANOTHER steak. Now you know why steak isn't my favorite. It was bad enough that we had it on the ranch every other meal ... mostly because something died and we had to butcher it immediately. Into the freezer it went. Oh for a nice Mexican dinner!!
Although we do occasionally have corned beef and cabbage ... and Cinco de Mayo day is coming up (when we actually DO have Mexican food) ... every other meal at the lodge, which happens twice a month, is STEAK. I ate half the meat, half the potatoes (which were highly questionable on this night) and half the green beans with bacon. So much for the diet!! This is just what I brought home.
I snuck outside to leave my takeout box in the truck. The last time I didn't do that, it got left on the lodge room floor overnight. Not a good smell in the morning. This beauty was parked by the back door.
The meeting was long as we were up, down, up, down ... going through the initiation of ten new members. At long last it was close to over when I had to stand up and present the budget. It took all of ten seconds to call for a vote of approval. One guy voted no. Really?
And so I literally RAN out of the room and headed straight for my truck. As much as I'd rather be out and about instead of sitting home, I'm beginning to question my choice of being this involved. Add to that, Mothers Day is coming up ... and of course they have no one to take over. This was going to be the year I said no.
I think I need to go back to eating for energy. I only have 23 days to prepare for this one ... feeding 300 people!! YIKES!!
Right now? I'm headed for the couch!! Hope you have a GREAT day!!
There always has to be that one Na vote to make it sound like not everyone was sleeping through the report. (Seriously, they are the one that was probably sleeping.)
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Enjoy your weekend.
It's about time.
I think you are right! lol
DeleteTry to get some rest and enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWish I lived closer I'd help you with the Mother's day meal.
Frances:)
I appreciate that Frances. It's going to be a lot of work, but worth it for all the ladies! I'll need a vacation afterwards!
DeleteYour military quilts look so nice and a lot of time and attention are put into them.Maybe next year you can find someone else to help. You are always busy with the lodge.
ReplyDeleteAsk them for some more Mexican dinners to be served.
Happy Easter Nancy
Sue
Thank you Sue. When they talked me into this lodge thing, I didn't have any idea I would be THIS busy. I do love the people however. Happy Easter!!!
DeleteThere is a reason I don't join organizations like the elks. Most of the folks that are members are just for the bennies and the fun of it, they don't want to do any of the work. Once they find out you are good at doing things, they start piling on little jobs, until that is all you are doing, a second job, and not having as much fun as all the free loaders. Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteTrue ... there are times when I just say NO ... and they are coming more frequently!
DeleteThe quilts are a noble effort. They will be very much appreciated. So kind of you to put your skills into such an effort. Becky
ReplyDeleteI hope they like them!! They are small ones, so easy to finish up ... meaning I don't get bogged down with them. Big quilts take too long!
DeleteWe've found that no matter what the group is, they always expect more than we are willing to give. Makes us leary of new ones yet we're talking about the Lions Club here. Lol.
ReplyDeleteYou just have to be good at saying "I'd love to, but I'm busy". It's the nice people that keep me going back.
