The orchid has gone crazy, blooming right and left, an amazing feat considering my thumb isn't even the slightest shade of green.
Every morning I run outside to see if this guy has blossomed out. Every morning it just gets bigger. Around here, you cannot be without your fly swatter, or in this case wasp swatter. Their sentries are looking for a nice home on MY home and I object. Chasing them around is my new morning exercise.
I did recently discover THIS cactus is called bunny ears. Believe me, it's nothing LIKE soft fuzzy bunny ears. This is one that sticks you with at least ten spines every time you get too close.
This guy is blooming beautifully, but I can't find a name. I can't even find a picture. He's happy for sure, but rather disjointed and growing in all directions at once. I found several different cactus on my walks that I would love to have in my yard were I a little more motivated.
Finally, in a fit of boredom and feeling like I was the last person left on earth (it gets that way when you're single and home alone) I WALKED all the way to the Chance residence. It's really not that far. It was nice to be outside, but I saw not one single person ... or car for that matter.
Happily I was met by Miss Snoopy, the best kitty in the west ... so here's one more kitty picture. This is one of the sweetest cats I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Unlike most kitties, she does not get more than two feet from her Mom at all times!!!
The most exciting thing on the schedule today is to hit the grocery store between 6 and 9:00 (Senior time) to see if I can come up with eggs and sugar. Hopefully there won't be any cane waving or pushing and shoving. Most likely there won't be any eggs either, since the hoarders are still hard at work.
The good news is that no pasta or eggs won't bother me a bit. Last week I got not one, but TWO bags of flour. THIS week I discovered I could become vegan and make my own pasta WITHOUT eggs. Won't THAT be tasty!!!
Pasta and bread have not been on my menu for many months ... too many carbs. When times are tough however, you have to sacrifice. Unfortunately that probably means I'll gain that 20 pounds back.
One last thing ... there are over 39 million people in California. At last count, if you believe the news reports, there are 2000 cases of the virus resulting in 33 deaths. Arizona, with over 7 million people has 152 cases of the virus resulting in 2 deaths so far.
I hope the numbers remain low and the stores catch up so we can put this all behind us and get back to living, instead of screaming at everyone to GO AWAY!! It has definitely been interesting to see how the residents of our country are handling this situation.
Your Cactus plants are looking very healthy.
ReplyDeleteKnow how you are feeling and there are two of us in the Apartment which gives us someone to talk to.
Se Safe away from crowds and Enjoy the solitude.
It's about time.
So far I'm hanging in there. A little more motivation on my part would probably help!!!
DeleteStrange times may call for strange measures. But VEGAN? Not if we can help it. We have a freezer full of meat. :)
ReplyDeleteWe all have to try to eat well, regardless, and hopefully not become lumps of dough while doing it! hahaha
I love love love your cacti! I wish they would survive outside here but in the meantime we have our small one indoors from Az.
Too funny Patsy ... yes I have a freezer full of meat too (I always keep it that way) but eggs seem to be a different story. All those kids home from school must be eating them up. Hoping I don't become a blimp.
DeleteLove the orchid! Your cactus is gorgeous, love when they bloom! We're going to try and find a grocery store later today in Williams or there about. Done with Walmart until this is over! Thanks again for the numbers, and most of those deaths have underlying health issues that the media doesn't like to talk about!
ReplyDeleteAgree Shirley. I have actually tried to stay away from Walmart. With everyone having to check themselves out, I'm sure the lines are terrible.
DeleteThe yellow blooming cactus is a type of Cholla
ReplyDeleteAha .... thanks Dave. That's probably why it's growing all crazy instead of more even.
DeleteWe are using Wal-Mart pickup service.not everything is available, but we don't have to deal with nasty people, plus you know what they have right away.
ReplyDeleteI heard they are hiring thousands of people just to take care of the pickup service. Good for them!!! Bet they wish they had all those checkout lines back!!!
DeleteI can't even place an online order with Walmart. Today is our pick up day at Raley's. Be interesting to see what we get. The orchid is gorgeous. I've never seen one that color. Take care....
ReplyDeleteI bet thousands are using that pick up service. I've seen several people at the store shopping for online people. I think it depends on the store.
DeleteLove the flowering cactus! My orchid is currently growing one stem and I am actually optimistic that I may eventually get a bloom or two! My husband went to the local grocery this morning and actually got a 6 pack of paper towel so maybe things are starting to look up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanette. It's the prettiest orchid i've ever had bloom. I may be on to something here. I do think the hoarding has slacked off some. We shall see.
DeleteYour orchid is beautiful. Wonder if that is a beaver tail cause. Three hours for the old timers. That should be enough for the old geezers. Good luck with the eggs. I'll be on the lookout for those today too. Only have two left.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I've never seen old folks walk that fast before!! It's on today's blog.
