Christ the Lord is risen today! I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed day with their friends and family, even if that only includes their fur friends.

More Snow On The Way?
I suppose it's just part of getting old, this sleepless night thing. Seems the four hour bell rings in my head after the first good four hours. From there on, it's dream after dream with a few nightmares thrown in for good measure, making it impossible to wake up feeling refreshed. The good part is the tapping of little feet on the covers next to me because he sleeps like a rock all night long!!! AND half the day!

Michael Jordan Is Not Next Door
Well today I can't say it's a beautiful day in California. I'm so tired my brain doesn't want to compute even a little bit. Not only did I have a very long day of getting stuff done, but the night was even longer as the neighbor kid and his loud buddies played basketball about 50 feet from my bedroom window. I screamed in my head for over an hour ... HOW RUDE CAN YOU BE? ... but it didn't help. Even if they heard the voodoo curses flying out my window, they ignored them.
It might have helped had they been better shots, but they hit the rim with a bang EVERY SINGLE TIME! Michael Jordan they are not! Even ear plugs and a sleeping pill did nothing. Ugh ..... I wish I was back on the ranch in the middle of nowhere.
The mornings critter cam didn't find much. When I see those up close and personal white whiskers however, I utter the words OH CRAP, sure that the skunks have returned. This time it was a light colored kitty, giving some cheek rubs to the red lights.
My neighbor caught this guy roaming my back fence around 3:00 am. It looks like daylight because she has a brand new fancy dancy phone that takes amazing pictures in the dark.

Bingo At The Castle
It's a beautiful, finally not quite so cold, California morning. It's dark and quiet, just the way I like it. Obviously nothing can top a red fox dumping on your dinner offerings, but Bingo always comes up with something.
My girl Friday was going to be late, so I grabbed a relatively new player who I thought was "with" it and plunked her down at the counting chair. If she was that excited about helping out, and therefore being first in line to get her bingo cards, she would be perfect for the job.
I also checked out her hands. No inch long fingernails studded with half carat rhinestones to get in the way. I'm happy to say she did an excellent job! She's on the payroll, which pays a hamburger, fries, drink and maybe a soggy apple crisp dessert. The best part is she's YOUNG, so she'll be around for quite a while .... I hope.

The Restaurant Critics Speak!!
I've never been known for my cooking, although I can bake a mean Marie Callender's Dutch Apple Pie!! I must have thought I was though, because at one time I was the cook at a pack station in the high Sierra mountains, serving between 20 and 40 people at every meal. There was also some search and rescue in between, which is the only reason I took the job.
I started at 4:00 in the morning by lighting a fire in the wood stove. Between cooking and dish washing (by hand) I worked until 7:00 at night. I never got any complaints.
To be honest, I think they hired me because I was the only one who could fry that many eggs over a wood stove and not break the yolks. As for my culinary expertise, the red fox said it all in this first video.

Rollin' In The Cow Pies!!!
I don't know how many of you have been on a ranch, but I've found over the years that it doesn't matter where it is. Dogs love to roll in stinky stuff. Our ranch dogs would find the biggest wettest cow pie they could find, and spend ten minutes rolling in it to give them the perfect perfume for the day. I think it hales back to the wolves. Stinky stuff masks their scent so they can hunt undetected. Heaven forbid there was a dead anything around, because that was our dogs A-One Acme Company perfume preference.
So when I watched this video, I was shocked into laughing out loud!! I'll just let you watch it.

Hanging With The Bulls
I'm so excited. These two beauties showed up again last night and graced my back yard. I've a pretty good idea why they hang out here ... when I left there were four gopher holes in the back flowerbed. Now there are none. What better pest control could you possibly have? What floors me is they jump over that 7' tall fence to get in. Nature sure is fascinating!

Just Like Micky D's .. I'm Lovin' It!!!
Sometimes it's not all that fun getting out of bed in the morning, even if you know what awaits you. I'm in dire need of a new mattress, but am too cheap to put out the bucks when there's more important things ... like pizza, dog food and RV stuff to buy. It was a pretty achy-breaky experience, making for lots of moaning and groaning while stretching on the floor, followed by many doggie kisses, which made it all better!!
After that first cup of coffee, I headed to the fridge to bring out my newest creation. Super easy this one, with everything done the night before. Just put the frozen tater tots in the bottom, cover with mild country sausage you browned along with some chopped onions (I left out the peppers) and smother in eggs with half and half, seasoned with salt, pepper and my secret ingredient ..... Cajon seasoning. Oh, and don't forget a liberal dose of cheese. Although I don't care for some of the Pioneer Woman recipes, this one turned out to be a keeper too. Does this not look delicious??

Shrinkage ... It's Happening All Over
Too many late nights and early mornings have taken their toll. I actually slept in until 5:00 this morning, so it's time to shake off the fairy dust and get back to normal. What could be better to start off the day than a French toast casserole!
Knowing I would never finish off the 9 x 13 pan it asked for, I used a smaller cake pan, with mixed results. As you can see, it exploded in the pan, eventually shrinking back down to normal. I'm not sure what I was expecting with this recipe. I think maybe more of a custard-like consistency.
As it turned out, it was truly just like a slab of French toast, but with a very crusty top. As usual, I poured on a big slug of syrup. Syrup makes EVERYTHING better!! I wasn't feeling that this recipe was going to work until I took that first bite. Yaowee!!! This stuff is delicious! I quickly decided this would be recipe #1 for the RV rally. If you would like to try it, look up Pioneer Woman french toast casserole
Speaking of syrup, while scrounging around in the fridge for that little bottle, I happened to see a couple of pull dates on my condiment stack in the door. Good grief ... there was mustard from 2018. I know it lasts forever, but even that's a little too long for me.
A further check found four bottles from 2019, and some very suspect ketchup dated 2020. I cleaned house ... well not the house, but at least the fridge door. Now I've got room for so much more!!!
That's when I remembered on my last foray (Wordle word) to the grocery store I had picked up some Easter candy. Self control was never my best attribute! These are perfect for when I need something sweet, but would never eat an entire bar. Body shrinkage has never been in the cards for me, probably because of that awful sweet tooth!

My How Things Change
I scrambled yesterday morning. Just like my usual morning scrambled eggs, I was all over the place trying to get my act together to drop off my truck for some coffee of her own. I'm always up very early in the morning, but I never leave the house before 9:00. Getting out the door by 7:30 is a big stretch for me.
I went prepared with a crossword puzzle book and a REAL book to read, along with my phone charger since my battery never seems to last even two hours any more.
I pulled in and no one was home. Come to find out, they were actually there, having snuck in the back door. I politely asked if I could have the truck back by 3:00 since I had Elk business to attend to. Then, in my best non-street-walker imitation, I headed out to walk the eight blocks to the lodge where I would sit while my truck glugged down some $$$$.
Gosh, has this town gone to the dogs. I see prostitutes walking the streets all the time, along with many homeless guys, all who seem to have puppies, but THIS .... this surprised me. There are so many buildings in disrepair that are falling down. This one, a Kentucky Fried Chicken staple of town, was gone altogether.

Testing ... 1. 2. 3
In spite of all the political garbage in California, and it is plentiful, it was another sun filled beautiful day to hang outside. While I drank my coffee on the patio way later in the morning than I should have, Cooper patrolled his property.
Someone, or something, wanders the yard every night leaving signs for Cooper to sniff out in the morning. So far I've been lucky ... there haven't been any skunks. Until today! I didn't see any, but I could sure smell them. I'm hoping all the grubs they've been after are now dead since having the corrals sprayed. I'm trying very hard to be retired from the Skunk Hunter business. I guess it's time for the critter cam.

I Ran Out Of Money!!
Another gorgeous cool quiet morning is in the books. I'd show you a picture, but it would be all black since my morning coffee ritual is always way before the sun rises. I had lots planned, but got absolutely nothing done.
Thank you so much for the RV water system recommendations. I'll do a little more research and see what I can come up with. At the moment, I just buy cases of bottled water for me and the critters. Jonathan for one, has to have good non-chlorine water twice a day, so if I can find something that works, it will make it much easier for me.
You know what this picture means ..... it's BINGO time!!
