Sometimes I wonder about myself ... mostly about what I was thinking at the time. Maybe that just comes with old age when you finally get a few smarts to play around with.
Mr. Cooper has been harassing me relentlessly to go for a walk every morning. We really don't get very far, maybe half a mile, before turning around. After all, he's fourteen and I'm too old to be carrying him back all that way when he gives me the "I can't walk another step" look.
This is no leisurely walk ... he trots the entire way, meaning I'm walking at my top speed just to keep up. We were entertained on this morning by a peacock that escaped the compound at the end of this road. There are maybe ten that live there, every one of which can be heard giving the morning wakeup call. They sound like they are right in my back yard.
It brings back memories of being on the original ranch where the pea hens sat in the trees at night and screamed bloody murder if anything came in the yard. Great watch dogs those guys are!!
This is the look that not only gets him carried, but scratches, rubs and occasional treats.
So put on your sunglasses!! This was the scary what-was-I-thinking quilt of the day, which looks nothing like the real thing. For whatever reason, my camera does NOT like orange or red colors. It distorts them terribly.
What the heck was I thinking when I bought THIS fabric?? Or this PATTERN? True, this was way back in the day before I knew anything about color ... and to be honest, I still haven't acquired that skill. I was like a moth to a flame ... totally entranced by the beautiful fabrics in the store. It turned out they did not HAVE those pretty fabrics, so we substituted. BIG MISTAKE!!
Let it be known that Mrs. Chance was with me at the time. She could have at least offered some constructive criticism ... like WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING? This doesn't really go with country ... or cowboy ... or anything for that matter. It was just really pretty fabric I guess. At least individually ... but put all these Japanese-ish fabrics together and it's AWFUL! What am I going to do with this?
Oh ... I know what happened!! Remember that trip to China I took several years ago? It was so cheap, being sponsored by the Chinese government and all, that I came back with a couple of souvenirs that fit perfectly into my dining room. Why, I've no idea because obviously I wasn't in my right mind.
I picked up this antique Chinese cabinet from a shop over on the coast many MANY moons ago. It just called to me, and it fit perfectly in my oxblood red dining room. I wouldn't paint anything that color ... the house came with it. Maybe I was Chinese in a former life.
And so those two little statues of terra cotta soldiers fit in perfectly. They are super heavy and literally came over on a slow boat, but were packed so well nothing was broken. It's pretty funny that my cowboy dinnerware lives in that cabinet. I held the quilt up on the wall. That would not only be a no, but a BIG NO!!
In between sewing what I'm sure will become yet another quilt for Cooper, I whipped up one more angel food cake. I love this stuff ... the perfect light after dinner treat, sitting on my 100 year old bottle. At least I'm keeping some of the old traditions alive.
Wait ..... I just had a great idea for that quilt ... it can become Jonathan's latest cage warmer!! This is his stance most of the day. He's getting on in years also and spends many hours sleeping on the perch. Normally his head would be completely behind his wing, but since his wing was broken several years ago, it's not a position he can easily assume.
Every night we yell up a storm, dancing and carrying on until bedtime. He doesn't sleep at night, but remains perfectly quiet (and awake) so predators don't detect him in the jungle. In the morning, he eats, chatters away and then sleeps again. Oh the life!!!
With one more quilt out of the way, it's on to something more befitting a cowboy house. I'm not sure which one yet, as I've got maybe 20 to choose from. See ... there it is again. What in the world was I thinking when I bought MORE fabric, and I already have SO MUCH to sew together?
Cooper is chomping at the bit, so I'm off on another walk. Maybe it will shore me up for tomorrow night. Bingo is on the horizon yet again.
I like your quilt! It will be beautiful when finished.
ReplyDeleteAny luck on the vacuum?
Frances:)
Nope ... no vacuum. I've got one more room to check. Guess I better start putting tags on stuff! LOL
DeleteCowboy Dishware in a Chinese China Cabinet...now that is classic! Did you find the vacuum yet?
ReplyDeleteNo I did not. Seriously, I've no clue where it got off to. It's crazy!!
DeleteGibbs and Cooper must have traded secrets over the winter. The 'i can't go any further' look. I know it well.❤️

Oh gosh ... I was hoping the fabric was just a passing fad. I guess I'm going to be forever sewing quilts.
DeleteI don't know about the quilt but I think I like the wall color and the cabinet. They go well together. Parrots are interesting creatures.
ReplyDeleteI love that cabinet Elva ... but I never spend any time in there.
