Wreaths Across America

Well I survived Friday the 13th, of which I chose not to speak.  Nothing makes it worse than actually saying it!!

No real blog today.  I'm off at o-dark-thirty to the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery to lay wreaths.  But first, a stop at McDonalds.  I'll explain later.

In the meantime, it's raining.  It's going to be a cold morning!!

  2. Thank you
The tradition began when Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester's Worcester Wreath Company donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington Cemetery. Wreaths Across America has grown since then. A spokeswoman said more than 2 million wreaths will be placed on markers across more than 2,000 locations this holiday season.

    1. I had no idea. That's an amazing amount of work to make those wreaths! I'm honored to be one of the participants.

  3. We've done this every year since 2010 as my parents are buried at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. We're not there this year as last year there were so many people there the parking and getting out was a total mess. I do purchase 3 Patriot pairs to help the organization. I hope you have a wonderful time, as I find the whole ceremony very moving!

    1. I knew they did this at Arlington, but I had no idea it was done at every other National Cemetery.

  6. What a wonderful way to give back to those who gave their lives in service to our country. I am sure the angels are smiling. I was glad to read the history of this tradition from Mr Ed.
I do hope all that fresh air and exercise gives you a well deserved good night's sleep.

    1. It's something I never knew they did. The cemetery has been there since the land was donated in the 90's I think. I was definitely impressed.

  7. Dad was born on April Fools Day, died on Thanksgiving, so having his Celebration of Life on Friday the 13th just seemed so appropriate...
