Never in my life has the weather been this weird. Yesterday and the day before it was 96 degrees. That's just plain crazy. I know the warm weather has been shifting to later in the year, but THIS is awful!! The low last night was 69. I sure hope this changes soon, or California will just dry up and blow away!
Having spoken to the Bonsai Master at the Big Fresno Fair, I purchased his book recommendation, The Bonsai Workshop. If this hobby interests you at all, this book is a great one, explaining everything in easy to understand language and pictures. By the way, it's pronounced bone sigh. Somehow we have gotten it confused with BANZAI, as in GERONIMO as you fall out of an airplane. I hope I didn't offend him when I asked about the airplane kind!!
After reading for a couple of hours, I headed off to the dentist, my least favorite place on the planet. When I was a kid, I had fillings put in baby teeth by a mad-man so-called dentist who didn't use novocaine. It took me 22 years to get up the nerve to find a REAL dentist and a good one at that.
Next up, a haircut, which just happens to be next to a great little sandwich shop. This is the grown up grilled cheese with tomato and pesto, because I'm tired of salad, salad and more salad. The surprise was the soup ... chicken tortilla. How in the world can you get that much flavor out of squash, carrots, tomatoes and chicken. It was truly amazing!! I began to savor every bite slowly, writing down everything I tasted so I can try to make it myself. This was the best lunch I've had in ages!!
Two hours after my haircut and a little color she talked me into, I headed home to happy puppies and a little bill paying. I have to say RV'ing has certainly simplified my bookkeeping and financial life. With most of my monthly bills going on one credit card, all purchases on another and the rest set up on automatic payments through my bank, there's no check writing required and only ten minutes a month to make sure things are going smoothly. I've always had seven or eight credit cards in my wallet ... now I only have two. It sure takes the stress away!!
I'm off again to the Fresno Fair, followed by a stop at Nee Hai Bonsai. I'm hoping to learn much more before I begin chopping and hacking my little $10 plant from Albuquerque ... and who knows, I just might find a big brother to go with her.
