You an get caught like these guys did in their front-wheel drive van. Do NOT drive down on the beach if you don't have 4-wheel drive.
Keep a wary eye on the tide ... we parked where the sand was wet, which keeps you from getting stuck, but also puts you in trouble when the high tide comes in.
The beach was full of castle-builders, surfers and paddle boarders, but my favorite by far was the dogs.
Big dogs, little dogs, barky dogs, scared dogs and fetchers!!! They were more fun to watch than the human variety.
There were lots of people on surf and paddle boards, but not many catching waves. Seems they were content to hang out on the back side and be shark bait. Not that we saw any ... sharks that is ... at least not the fish kind.
This guy wouldn't give up the bumper so she could throw it. Here's a surfer taking a dive ...
This image from our chairs on the beach shows a magnificent rock at the end of the sand slide.
Quite a few people climbed up this hill .... once .... and slid down, either on butt or board. It's such a climb, that I didn't see anyone go up the second time!!
Play time ....
The tide was getting closer and closer to the car, so we made a hasty exit! It was lunch time anyway. Guess where we went!!!
Nope you're wrong ... handcuffed and chained to the steering wheel, Patty and I made Dan drive to BJ's Quilt Store near Cloverdale. You KNOW by now he's had his fill of material and wouldn't go voluntarily!! Immediately in the door, we asked if she had a kitty or dog that might keep Dan company. Izzy the dachshund filled the bill!! BJ's has an amazing supply of quilting material, but feeling guilty about ANOTHER quilt stop, we quickly looked around and bid our farewells.
If you guessed the Fish Peddler in Bay City for lunch, you were actually right!! Back for the best clam chowder ever and obviously worth the 35 mile drive!! You can't park here with an RV ... but find a place to stash the rig and come have lunch. It doesn't have the greatest ambience, but the food is awesome.
I have this thing about slimey stuff ... so I've only eaten one oyster EVER ... and wouldn't you know it was spoiled. So you will NEVER EVER see me eat one of these things, but they do have plenty here at Pacific Oyster for YOU to try!! Both in the shell .....
And fresh packed in the jar ... along with lots of other fresh seafood in their cold case.
I thought about getting a tub of chowder to take home, but something about being stuffed to the gills takes the craving away. Dan on the other hand, got one to go!!
Today we'll get packed up for our trip to Oceana Thousand Trails in Washington. But maybe just one more little quilt store before we leave Pacific City.
