Only three more days to enjoy the weather in Central California. Very soon we will be heating up to well over ninety for the next 7-10 days. I can only hope the weather guessers are wrong, like they usually are.
I gauge just how hot it is by how far I can get across my concrete patio in bare feet before hitting the cool grass. I made it all of halfway before breaking into my marathon pace. That's why Cooper always gets to go for a walk before 8:00 am. The rest of the day, I have to CARRY him across the concrete. It's just too hot for little feeties.
We checked on the veggies, finding the cucumbers are VERY happy. They are sending out tendrils like crazy. Patty said they are climbers, but I completely forgot to find something for them to climb. Gosh ... this is turning into a lot of work. Any ideas for this one?
It amazes me how many of these little guys I have. They are everywhere, and this one is laying on the pretty scorching hot concrete. If I stay perfectly still, she will not see me. I'm about three inches away taking this picture. The good news is they eat all those darn ants I have roaming the property. Yes he's alive cuz I saw him blink!!
Thank you to Husband who said I needed calcium for my plants. Upon inspection of not only my flowers out front, but my zucchini out back, I apparently have blossom end rot due to lack of calcium. Well that's not good!! I'm hoping I'm not too late to make adjustments. This bag will arrive today. I'm learning more about gardening than I ever wanted to know.
As for the asparagus, the more I read about it, the more I think that's just WAY too much work. However, I did finally realize what they mean when they say do you want to buy one year roots or two year roots. Two year roots mean they are already TWO years old, so maybe, just MAYBE I might get a crop sooner. Who knows. Honestly, it sounds too much like hard labor to me, but I did find a garden spot. This is what it will look like IF they grow.
With everything watered, I headed on off to pick up that embroidery work. First stop ... diesel fuel from my favorite station. I'm not sure what's up with them, but several of the pumps have been shut down. I had to do some fancy driving to get to an open one, and that guy was SURE I was going to run him over. Nope ... I saw you! I drive with my mirrors more than my front windshield.
This turned out to be about $4.72 a gallon. Well worth the 7 mile trip since fuel here in town is $5.25 a gallon and up. I guess they are counting on the summer vacation crowd. SURPRISE ... no one comes here for vacation and they sure don't drive halfway through town for fuel.
I stopped at Safeway on the way home for a few things, to the tune of $182.00. Two bags ... I had two bags of flour, sugar, a couple dog treats, Pepsi, NO meat, NO ice cream, but a few veggies. Okay, I'm not shopping there any more.
Wasn't I surprised when I got home to find this note by my back door. What the heck? Who left me this??
I was completely stumped until I saw what it was. A desktop computer "ramp" so it's easier to type. The nice gentleman I helped with his driver's license and passport had one of these, and I remarked how nice it was. What a sweet guy he was to get this for me. Next time I'll remember to be quiet.
Lunch was quick and easy. I know, I'm weird when it comes to food. I never think "hey, I'll cook something delicious for lunch". I only think "what's in here that I need to eat or I'll have to throw it out". Leftover meatloaf and an avocado from the depths of the container of water. That has turned out to be a real cost saving tip.
After checking the garden once again, I took the panels that were embroidered and sewed them into this quilt. It's just a tad bit long, so note to self ... next time trim them down a little more. The gal charged me $30 for both pieces, but I paid her $40. It's worth even more than that in my book.
I left her with two more names to be embroidered, which hopefully will be done in two weeks. Now to see if my machine can quilt through the heavy name lettering. I'll have to watch it like a hawk.
It's time once again to don the fireproof armor of Bingo. Luckily it's not a full moon THIS week, but we will almost hit it on the head NEXT week. This should be a fun one ... I'm going to learn how to CALL bingo! I'm stapling a note on my chest ... ONLY TO BE USED IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY!!
Glad you got some stuff to help with the calcium...husband says good deal, you got this!
ReplyDeleteHappy Bingo Tuesday!
Frances:)
Now if I only had the time to put it in the garden! LOL
DeleteThe piece of lattice you have would work for the cucumbers.
ReplyDeleteI might be able to cut a piece off the end. It's been so sunny and hot, I needed it for a bit of shade. Thank you Tressa!!
DeleteThe embroidery turned out really nice and looks like it lays nice and flat. Her pricing seems reasonable to the time, materials and labor she is putting into the pieces.
ReplyDeleteThank you ... l've not worked with much embroidery at all. I'm just hoping my longarm will quilt it easily.
DeleteYou are becoming quite the little gardener. Nancy Nancy quite contrary, how does your garden grow?
ReplyDeleteCute little gecko (?) but Shirley won't like them!!
I hope I remember that avocado trick when I get my next ones!
Well right now, it's not growing quite so well ... but hopefully it will get better soon!!
DeleteI found a spot for it, but I need to dig a long trench. Maybe this weekend.
