Trading Trains For Jets and Race Cars!!

It was a nice lazy day yesterday, even though the "kids" got me up earlier than usual.  Not as cold as the night before, but with 33 degree temperatures, they didn't stay outside long.  At the Last Chance Ranch, the sun came up alongside the rig and warmed things up nicely.  Here however, I'm shaded by a tall hedge and a huge tree .... the perfect spot to be parked when it's hot in the desert!!
The views all around the valley include snowy mountaintops.  That's not dust or gray soil, it's the cold white stuff on top.  Temperatures are supposed to warm up this week .... YAY!!
Most of the morning I spent going over one quilt pattern, Row by Row Arizona, making sure I had all the required southwest material which is hard to find in my area.  It was then I heard the roar of jets VERY CLOSE overhead!!  Four of them to be exact!  I must be located under the flight path for the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.  I've traded trains for jets!  Oh well ... I can get used to that sound .... it's the sound of Freedom screaming overhead!  They don't fly at night, do they?

In no time at all, it was noon and Miss Patty came by for a quick jaunt to town.  Quick is a relative term in Tucson ... it's not QUICK to get anywhere due to traffic.  We did find a PetSmart, so the puppies and Jonathan have food for the next month, and Michaels almost landed us some great decor items, except for the missing battery "door" on every single one!!

Back at the rig, I contemplated dinner.  How hard can it be to heat and serve a Spanish Fiesta frozen dinner for five??  Believe me, I already checked out possible burial sites, just in case ... and wouldn't you know, Just-In-Case happened!!  The chicken, black bean and pepper part heated up fine, and the rice in the microwave was a cinch.  It was the cheese sauce that got me!!  It came out a curdled mess of nastiness and went straight in the trash!!  NOW what do I do??

In the back of my head I hear Dan say "cheese makes EVERYTHING better".  So I grated half a pound on top and let it melt.  I'm here to tell you Dan was right, but that's the last time I'll buy Spanish Fiesta, or whatever that was!!
About the time I sat down to eat, I heard the roar of engines!!  RACING engines!!  The kind I used to hear on Saturday nights when I was in high school.  But it's been so quiet here!!  Come to find out, there's a race track close by and it was Thursday night practice.  Hmmmm ... I used to frequent the stock car races when I was younger and could stay awake past 9:00.  I knew there was NO way my ear plugs were going to white out THIS noise, so I just turned the TV up full blast.

Lucky for me, at 9:00 the racing cars went home, my electric blanket worked perfectly and I slept great!!  No trains, planes OR cars!

I'm determined to take my camera out for some pics today, with maybe a quick stop at Cactus Patch and a drive by of a couple more properties.  I did have in mind to get to Havasu for the fireworks, but there's no room at the inn, except for dry camping.  My head is set on Tombstone and Bisbee this trip, so I'm heading South instead.  There's always next year ... if I can get the dates right!!

  1. The rodeo grounds are perfect for the Winter Blast. You can experience everything without ever having to move. We're leaving on Monday for it.

    1. That was Barbara's recommendation, Jan, but it would be dry camping for me. I'll make reservations next year for sure. Have fun!!!!

  3. Where is this Last Chance Ranch of which you speak? I googled it, and the only one that comes up is in Oklahoma. Do they have a web site? We're under the flight path for the F16s, sometimes they do fly at night, and depending on wind direction it can be VERY loud.

    1. I'm so sorry Allison ... it's not an RV park really. It's my good friends the Chance family who have a hookup for one RV. They call their place the Last Chance Ranch because they don't want to ever move!! We kid each other about their "RV Park".

  5. When my husband was in flight school (as student then instructor) they did their "night" flying at dawn and dusk when the sky was not fully dark but the sun was not officially up.

    1. That's so interesting ... it's the exact time I hear them flying!! I don't really mind THAT noise .... I lived in the flight path for B-52 bombers when I was a kid. Talk about noisy!!!
