Sometimes I Wonder!!

It's been a lovely couple of days, sitting on the now chilly patio for coffee.  Mother Nature has lowered the nighttime temps to the 50's.  Woohoo!!!  I'm not sure how that happens since the days have still been in the 90's.  You can tell that my back yard grass isn't exactly happy.

Sometimes I wonder why things happen ... or don't happen as the case may be.  I set the sprinklers to water for 12 minutes each section, once each day.  They haven't turned on yet.  It seems they don't like my changing things up and are on strike.

Every morning I have waited for the sound of the pump, all for naught.  It's set up ... it's got electricity, it has the correct time ... but they refuse to run.  I have to manually turn the system on.  As soon as I wake up enough, I'll take another look and see what the problem is.  I didn't change anything but the length of time it runs!! Maybe the Bingo Boogies have invaded my controller.

I was off early yesterday after talking to my Quilter of Old.  I was wondering if she would even speak to me since I haven't had her quilt anything in a year.  I told the gal receiving this one I voluntarily made, that she wouldn't get it until the end of July.  That's when I found out it's a Father's Day gift for her son.  I can't quilt it until I get to Arizona.

Thanks to Anne, it will be ready for Father's Day, a surprise for my friend.  Although Anne has a mega quilting frame much above my pay grade, we talked about my new longarm and the learning curve.

That brought about THIS pile.  Sometimes I wonder why I don't just keep my mouth shut!!  In this case however, it's for a good cause.  There is a lady in Anne's quilting guild that takes all the fabric she can get, cuts it into different sized squares and sews up a quilt top.  Nothing fancy, just different sized squares.

Then she finds sale fabric, even sheets from Goodwill, and makes backings.  Someone needs to now add batting and quilt all these.  They are then donated to foster kids who have graduated high school and are heading off to college and a dorm setting.  She said the kids are so appreciative of this little gift, it makes her cry.  How could I say NO to quilting these six.  She had a box of twenty!!!

It's perfect really ... it will give me lots of practice, costing only some batting and thread.  Truly both are not cheap any more, but it's for a good cause.

After spending over an hour at the Elks Lodge working with the accountant (and twenty minutes yaking with the Treasurer), I headed straight home, completely forgetting about my Starbucks stop.  Sometimes I wonder about myself.  It's at the top of my list today as I head off to .... you guessed it .... BINGO!!

The rest of the afternoon I wondered why I opened my mouth and said okay to this!!  Gee Nancy, you made a quilt FREE for HER ... can't you make one for me??  Funny how there ended up being not one but three panels in that bag.

It took me a couple hours to cut this one apart, since absolutely nothing on it was straight or square.  The border I wanted to keep quickly disappeared under the blade.  The little square of fabric will go around each block.  ONE ... I'M ONLY DOING ONE!!!!!

Lastly I made one quick run to the small town North of me that has the only quilt shop in my area.  They had the next package of fabric for my Block of the Month 3,999 piece nightmare.  I figured it out that it cost me $15.50 in fuel to go get it.  Next month I'll have them mail it.  Surely it will be cheaper.

All that brought me to an empty fridge.  What's for dinner?  Here's my new go-to.  For $1.29 a package, I can eat for three days.  Take THAT high fuel prices!!!  I added in a little frozen chicken I scraped off the piece I had in the freezer.  I actually love this stuff, so I have to be careful or I will eat the entire package in one sitting.

And so today brings about another exciting and exhilarating night of BINGO!!!!  That will be followed up by an epically long Elks Lodge Meeting on Thursday and Cooking With Nancy on Father's Day.  It's better than sitting home I guess, but sometimes I wonder!!

  1. It's like Arny...once someone finds out that he knows a lot about cars, the question comes, "Can you look at my car, it is doing [long list of problems]" There are two guys living next door who both work for the same auto repair shop...they constantly are bringing or having a vehicle next door because they can't say no. Girlfriends car, X-wife's car, kids car, friends of all above, friends of friends of all above. Poor guys work 40-45 hours each week at the shop, then have to work on cars on their time off. Nancy, you are going to be quilting the rest of your life now! lol
