With only a tiny population of 30,000 our businesses are mostly Mom and Pop's who can't afford to be shut down. With that in mind, our City Council decided to fight fire with fire. I'm sure you've heard of San Francisco, the Sanctuary City where illegals and criminals can live without fear of being arrested for anything, even using the sidewalks of San Francisco for their personal toilet. If you haven't been there lately, don't bother to go. It's disgusting!! You never know WHAT you are walking in.
After a lot of investigation, it was determined our little town can ALSO be a sanctuary city ... for business. Who knew? Apparently you can become a sanctuary city for just about anything!! The local stores can now open without fear of retribution, arrest or huge fines. They voted on it Friday, and let me tell you, the celebrations began.
It started off with the Police Department opening up their vehicles where we found big screen televisions so we could watch the council vote since there were too many people inside the building. VOILA! Just like that our business were BACK IN BUSINESS. Saturday there was an afternoon parade of probably 75-100 cars driving all the neighborhoods with flags flying and horns honking. Talk about a show of patriotism!!
By the way, no one was wearing masks and there was lots of hugging. It was Independence Day in Atwater California. Just for the record, I actually live in the County, not the City.
Just to interject a little SURPRISE here, it has been reported that after 50 autopsies on Covid 19 patients in Italy, pathologists have discovered it is NOT a pneumonia but a disseminated intravascular coagulation (whatever the heck that is) that SHOULD have just been treated with antibiotics and is not NEAR like the Covid 19 they have been scaring everyone with. Look it up and see what you find. Nowadays, you cannot believe everything you read. I guess time will tell.
In the meantime, some of my very dear friends from the Pumpkin Patch are the Paster and his wife from the local Victory Baptist Church. I'm Methodist, not that it matters, they like me anyway. So yesterday, there was another huge celebration when the Church met for the first time IN PERSON outside in their parking lot to honor the Police, Sheriff and CHP officers that protect this little city.
Here's the CHP Commander, followed by the Sheriff's Office.
Lastly was the Police Department accepting his Home Town Hero engraved plaque.
The biggest Home Town Hero of all is our Sheriff. Fed up with the entire Covid 19 "lock em up" scare and having first hand knowledge of the Governor's lopsided handling of the entire thing, he wrote a letter to the legislature.
In part, it says he went above and beyond to gather all the necessary medical equipment at great expense to the county to handle all the bodies that were going to overrun the system (he is also the Medical Examiner) according to what the Governor said was going to happen, yet nothing HAS happened. Life is a risk ... you could die in a car accident, a plane crash, food poisoning ... just about anything.
The Constitution gives us the right to accept the risks. No one has the right to dictate WHAT risk you will or will not take. When Governor Newsom went to the airwaves and singled out one county who didn't follow his orders to the letter, and treated them differently, it became obvious that this entire lockdown was based on him having control over the citizens.
Now Newsom has threatened different counties with removing their funding if they do not follow his orders to the letter. Economic slaughter is what we are now facing and the majority of citizens are on the verge of a statewide revolt. The Sheriff believes Newsom wants the majority of citizens (and illegals) completely dependent on government assistance so he can continue to control them after this "pandemic" is declared over.
When the State requires the Sheriff to arrest people for attending church and not standing 6 feet apart, yet Newsom releases felons out on the street, completely disregarding the safety of our citizens, something is wrong. The Sheriff will no longer impose the Covid 19 restrictions on any citizen in this County.
It was much longer, but that's the gist of the letter.
So there you have it folks .... REVOLUTION in the middle of California. I'm proud to say I support his every word ... AND WE ARE BACK IN BUSINESS. People are coming from miles around to eat and get their hair cut. WE ARE FINALLY FREE from the tyranny of Newsom.
As to Covid 19, it has been shown that as states are opening up, the virus continues to go downhill in numbers. Could it be that all the information we have been given on the virus is completely incorrect? Now wouldn't that be something!!
Happy for your town,I'm sure more are following. Heard the governor is in Montana.
ReplyDeleteBoy are they ever denying THAT one. His wife owns property there and obviously, that would have been a no-no in light of his stay at home orders. LOL
DeleteHappy for you guys! Yes, I don't believe anything on the news anymore!
ReplyDeleteIt's even worse than I ever thought it could be. I'm suspect of everything I read unless I can confirm whose lips it's coming out of.
DeleteOne of the happiest days for me since Gruesome was elected was the day I signed a petition to recall him. If I was 20 years younger and didn't have such a big investment here, I would blow this popstand in a heartbeat, and that from a Native Californian.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much my thought too. I'm halfway to Arizona now.
DeleteHa! I read about this yesterday & instantly wondered if you had anything to do with this! Attaboy, Atwater!✊
ReplyDeleteReading the press these past few days, you'd be forced to conclude that our "national" media (which we've all discovered with their grossly inept Covid coverage isn't really national at all & is in fact quite provincial in its insular NYC-centric outlook) is actually disappointed that states like FL. GA & here in TX where governors relaxed restrictions once warm weather set in & all our hospitals became eery ghost towns haven't seen hospitalization & death rates spike to the levels NYC has seen thanks to their grossly incompetent Governor & Mayor.
From the beginning, Cuomo & deBlasio seemed to have done everything wrong in defiance of common sense - even as the New York Times & TV networks continue, inexplicably, to laud them both as managing this public health crisis more deftly than officials of other states. I'd like to see the NYTimes & CNN reporters tell to the faces of all the families who lost their grannies because Cuomo bizarrely *mandated* that nursing homes take in Covid infected patients just how masterfully brilliant he's been. Heck, until recently, even Gavin Newsom was dealing with this more intelligently than the Governor of NY & he didn't get anywhere near the blizzard of fawning press notices that Cuomo's gotten!
If the NYC-centric media & their allies on Capitol Hill are, given all the countervailing evidence now available, still so fearful of contagion that they would permanently destroy other states' economies to stave it off, then they should probably start fearing more the spread of "Atwater Fever"! (<--It's not 'racist' to call it that, right?) I suspect that little rebellion in your neck of the woods is gonna go viral and it'll soon be aiming straight at them if they don't stop trying to force the rest of the country to bear the permanent consequences of their own harmful idiocy.
Oops. I guess I can't use emojis on this blog? After publishing, I now just see the dreaded question marks where I put a smiley face & later a winkie-thing. Sorry!🤔 (<-- that's supposed to be a perplexed face.)
DeleteI had no idea you couldn't use emojis. I'll have to check that out. I agree on all points, and I hope our little rebellion goes viral and more people take up the cause.
DeleteI am so proud of Atwater!! I wondered yesterday when you teased us if that's where you live. San Diego came out a few days ago that of their 194 cases only 6 were really the "virus' with no underlying conditions. Now if every state revised their "true" numbers wouldn't people be surprised that the
ReplyDeletewhole country has been shut down for nothing. Of course I believe that many of us knew that all along!! More towns need to stand up to these Governors! Ours included. Our council talks big and then does nothing! Love the Hometown Hero plaques! Cheers to Atwater!!!
So now cities are telling the truth so they can open back up. Before it was lets cheat just a little so we can get more money. I guess that's backfiring on them now. Newsom needs to go, but there are too many here totally dependent on government subsistence so I doubt we will ever get him out.
DeleteVery good news today, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol ... I'm so excited to get back to normal. Unfortunately everything around us is still locked up, like all the places I go for photography.
DeleteYep, been looking forward to this blog after I saw that Atwater became a Sanctuary City for Businesses. I think this is just the first of many other cities and counties following the lead of Atwater and that of Modoc County up north.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so. The people really NEED to revolt on this one.
DeleteA Sanctuary City for business! It is going to be interesting to see if this starts a movement across the country. I know there are things going on in Michigan this week with a group called Stand Up Michigan. That would be beside the fact that the Governor opened, sort of, two sections of Michigan. The Upper Peninsula and the Northern part of the Lower Peninsula as of Friday. Just in time for Memorial Weekend no RV parks or overnight lodging being allowed to open but restaurants and bars with restrictions plus retail and office workers. Should be an interesting Memorial Weekend across the country.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I don't get. Open up the entire State. Why are you selecting your favorite counties to open first? Hope you are able to get back home soon.
DeleteVery interesting. I'm happy that common sense has prevailed in Atwater. Things are opening up here too, gradually and we are thrilled about that. I like that statement in his letter about we should be warned about things but let us decide for ourselves what risks we are willing to take. We still walk out and get into our vehicles for hour long drives that 'could' kill us without hesitation! :)
ReplyDeleteExactly Patsy. I hope you guys are back to normal soon. I definitely think the people should be able to decide for themselves what risks they want to take.
