I Pine For The Old West

As you may or may not know, I was born into the wrong era, the wrong time zone, the wrong part of history.  I contemplate this a lot when I'm sitting on the couch with so much to do I'm overwhelmed.  I just can't figure out where to start first.  I relish accomplishments, not a long list of jobs that I can't seem to finish due to one reason or the other.

Now riding my horse across the mountains, or planting a garden for food or even gathering eggs for breakfast ... THAT I can sink my teeth into.
Since that's not happening any time soon, I'm all about reading up on the characters of the Old West and pretending I once lived there.  Such was the case when I saw this book by Casey Tefertiller.  I have no idea how to pronounce his name, but he's on a lot of Old West shows, like the Wyatt Earp Vendetta Ride just a night or two ago.

He has written this book and received many accolades.  I figured to give it a shot when I found it on Amazon for $12.99.  That's a good book price so I ordered it immediately.  I probably should have NOT been preoccupied with puppies, phone games and food.

Wasn't I shocked when I clicked on the BUY button, only to see it say THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDLE PURCHASE!!  Noooooooo ... I wanted a BOOK!  One of those paper things you can hold in your hand!!  Sadly, I'm stuck with it.  Now I get to look forward to opening my hard-to-read phone and going blind while swiping back and forth.  Not to mention that kindle books are usually something like $4.00. BIG SIGH!!
Instead of reading, I got a haircut.  Of course if I looked like THIS, I would NEVER get a haircut.  I mean really, who has hair like this?  I was definitely NOT one of the lucky ones when it came to parceling out golden locks.

I won't tell you who, where or how, but people in this little town are getting back to normal quickly.  No it's not on the OKAY list, but they can kiss my you know what.  If Newsom can send kids back to school (the one down the road from me is now open) then one at a time, we can get our hair cut.  I have no doubt AT ALL that Mr. Newsom has had his hair cut six times in the last month.
Next up on the hit parade is an oil change.  Every time I get in the Jeep, it's DING DING DING.  I'm pretty sure the last time I got some hoopty-do oil that was supposed to last 10,000 miles.  The problem is the little sticker fell off and now I'm in the dark.  Today's project will involve scrounging through the glove box for the receipt and trying to figure out where to take it for the next drink.

I really need to find something other than the drive-through place.  Last time they charged me $107 for an oil change.  I kid you not.  I would go to Jeep, but you have to fight to get in line, then wait six hours.  No one ever said it's a rose garden!!  If I lived in the Old West, I would only need to slap a little bear grease on the wheel bearing and feed the horse.
In the meantime, every time I open a cupboard I see things that need to be donated.  I've accumulated WAY too much stuff over the years.  Unfortunately all ONE of the donation stores in our town is closed.  I began storing things in the garage, but now it's overflowing.

Oh how I pine for the old days when you had two pair of jeans, one pair of boots and a hat to cover up your horrible hair.  I remember about six dishes instead of cupboards full, with two coffee cups rather than 26 wine glasses.  It certainly was a simpler time.

  1. Sure wish I had her hair! I have a kindle that I love! I don't think I'd even know how to open a book anymore LOL. If I had to read on my phone, that would never happen! I'm surprised about the school being open, from the sounds of things ol pretty boy (not) is loving his power trip of locking things down for even longer (must mean more $$$$ from the feds). Good luck with the oil change, I know even with an appointment it can still take hours. sigh...

    1. Newsom was all over being one of the first to open up, but all he opened was the golf courses so his cronies could play. I was surprised that the little school is open, but I'm guessing it's because they are rather like a day care for kids.

  3. We didn't even pay that much to do the Oil and Filter on the Truck which takes 16 Quarts.
Everyone would like hair like that.
You should be able to cancel your Kindle purchase through Amazon. They'll even help you order the book.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  4. Now "KING" Newsome is opening the parks, but closing the beaches. I am sure he is HOT that the Peons that didn't vote for him in Orange County took to the beaches in 90+ degree weather last weekend. From the pictures that I saw, I was impressed how many of them kept their distance from others. But the KING does not trust them and has to punish them...

As for Walmart...I took the Library's Toyota Highlander there for one oil change (I was out-of-town on a library related convention), and they cracked the oil pan by putting the plug on too tight. Next time it needed changing I took it to the Toyota place and they spotted the red stuff to seal the plug to the pan.

    1. You've got that right. His cronies probably don't swim, they just play golf. Yeah, the Walmart here doesn't have a good reputation. I'm going to look for a small repair shop instead.

  5. I tried to achieve that hairstyle one time.....lol. Jerry reads books on his phone. I don't know how he does that. I'm old school, I want a book in my hand. I have tried really hard to support Newsome. I was doing ok with that but yesterday the support went away.....gone gone gone. Looks like another beautiful day in NorCal.

    1. The weather is really holding up nice for us Elva. It's the only good thing we've got going. He had me at "we're going to open up", then failed to follow through. I'm sure the longer he holds off, the more Federal money he's getting.

  6. I'm surprise as much as you are into horses
And with all the riding stables in Tucson / vail area That cater to trail ride I'm surprised you haven't volunteered your time a day or two a week as a trail boss you certainly have the experience with horses and the public who knows where it might lead somebody's got to exercise that horse(s) and the best part you don't have to pay for the stable the food the vet an The care
I would think of it as free Saddletime

    1. I've looked up a couple stables and may just do that next winter. It's true, the cost of having a horse is extremely high. I'd volunteer in a flash!!

  7. You might like "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains" by Isabella Bird. It's amazing. She rode horseback in 1873..mostly through Colorado, but starting out in California, if I remember correctly. Anyway, some mountain riding you "can sink your teeth into" for sure.

  8. Here too the bars and restaurants are closed but I drove through a very small town yesterday and there were 1/2 dozen cars in front of the bar, the door was ajar but all the lights were off. I had no doubt that the locals were in here having a Bud or two!

    1. Hahaha Jim ... in those tiny towns they do what they want. They seem to have a different view of life than city folks.

  9. I have a Kobo with books on it yet to read but I'm loving the feel of a book in my hand too much. I'm too cheap to pay for books so just rely on the exchanges in clubhouses(southwest) and book drops in our small town. So far, we have lots of reading material to go through. sorry about your purchase.
Yup, if I had hair (and face) like that I would also LOVE my hair. Alas, we have what we have and make the best of it. :)

    1. I'm actually surprised you find so many books at exchanges. Many of them are new!! I too like the feel of a book much better than going blind reading the tiny print on my phone!! I'm patiently waiting for goose baby pictures!!
