So I did. Or at least I tried. Just to see what's going on, I drove up to the big doors. Maybe I can get inside and take some pictures. Wasn't I surprised to find a couple of Sheriff's vehicles parked outside. I guess I'm not going in after all!! I turned around and beat a hasty retreat. That's when I saw the sign. Maybe it was here before, I just don't remember seeing it. I'm not even sure it has anything to do with the hangar.
The big sign out on the highway is still intact, along with the jet-on-a-stick. There is no indication at all they are out of business. With nothing else on my agenda, I decided to do a little geocaching. You find the most interesting places with this pastime.
On the way out, before the jet, is a small narrow road to the right. It turns to gravel after passing a couple of houses and ends up in a large parking lot surrounded by bushes. Turns out it's a small boat ramp on this little river running through the valley. You would never guess this was here. Another perfectly quiet, tranquil spot for a picnic, or maybe a little kayaking.
Yesterday I was expecting company, so I spiffed up the rig a little, discovering that my expensive Dyson vacuum is just too frustrating to use any more. When I get back to Tucson, I'll take it in for repairs. In the meantime, I picked up as best I could because Betty Graffis would arrive just before lunch. With all that cleaning going on, Jonathan decided HE needed to clean up too. He dips his head all the way in the water, then flings it around splashing wet stuff everywhere.
You can't really see, but his head is VERY wet!! Silly bird. The good news is he's never done this when I've been on the road. It's a good sign he's relaxed ... at least for now. He turned out to be a very Pretty Boy for Betty.
The second she was in the door, Jessie and Cooper took over. When Betty took her jacket off, Jessie promptly plopped herself on top of it. That's unusual in itself, but then she rolled over so Betty could rub her tummy. They got along just fabulously, meaning Jessie never once growled. It's a miracle. I think the only other person she doesn't growl for is Miss Patty.
We had a great visit, talking about everything that has happened to us in the last year, including the passing of her dear husband Joe. They used to come to this park for his Horseshoe tournaments. In the dictionary under the word Wonderful, is a picture of Betty and Joe. I hope on my way back, we'll be able to get together again.
Now for the challenge of the day ... get the local channels on my DishNetwork to work so I could watch the All-Star Game. First off, they really need to train the first contacts better. I'm no whiz at this stuff, yet I'm always telling THEM what they need to do to fix MY problem. When they just can't figure it out, I ask for a Supervisor. That of course takes at least 14 minutes on hold.
This time, they wanted to transfer me to the "RV/Mobile" department, where I started all over again with the explanation of "please just change my local channels". After being on the phone for 58 minutes, which included ten minutes of rebooting the system, I was able to watch the game, although they were already 30 minutes in.
It was fun to watch the best of the best, but since it doesn't determine who gets home field advantage for the World Series any more, the guys didn't seem to be very serious about the game. On the other hand, they DID seem to be having a VERY GOOD TIME!!!
First stop today ... Fred Meyers. I require a cordless vacuum cleaner!! How exciting is THAT???
I love my full size Shark vacuum.
ReplyDeleteShark is on my radar Jan. That's a good recommendation!!
DeleteDid I ever tell you that I went to the 1984 All Star Game? Do you remember where that was located at?? Can you say "Candlestick Park"? :) (still have the commemorative button they handed out, still in the original package...in the safe deposit box at the bank)
ReplyDeleteOh yes Dave, I remember Candlestick!! I went to the one in San Francisco in 2007 I think. That was GREAT fun!!
DeleteThe air museum & the sheriff's offices share the same road. We went there last month & we had to stop to figure out which road was going to what. We were disappointed in the air museum. About a quarter or more of the museum is now being used for storage (rvs, trailers & such), was pretty dark in the hanger area, and it seemed like they had a lot of water issues during the winter/spring months. We really liked the big plane that was outside.

It's a shame the building won't be used for something other than storage. There was no indication at all that it was open. I'll stop in again on the way back.
DeleteIf you stay to the road to the left of the building where the entrance is
ReplyDeleteThere was a whole bunch of decommission trains back there
Just follow the train tracks
Oh yeah ... I vaguely remember that from a few years ago. Thanks for the reminder ... I'll go take a look on my way back.
DeleteHi Nancy, It's Betty. I'm waiting for Jonathan to say "Hi Betty" the next time I visit. By the way, do you or any of your readers know how to fix it so when i comment it doesn't show me as unknown??
ReplyDeleteI think it has to do with when you changed your blog title. You might have to go back through all the settings on the new blog and put your information in again.
