The Soapbox appeared this morning ... I'll try to keep it short.
It's probably my fault ... I embarrass easily, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this situation. The protests and temper tantrums around the country because Clinton didn't win, are about as embarrassing as it gets.
Even right here in River City, the University Students threw a temper tantrum because they didn't get their way. I'm sorry, but this is a Democratic country, meaning everyone can vote for the candidate of their choice. Nothing like being bad losers America.
My grandparents came here from Europe without a helping hand from anyone. They didn't have health insurance, there was no welfare and they certainly did NOT expect someone else to take care of them. I just don't understand where that idea came from.
I do realize that people are mad at the government ... the government needs to pay ... the government needs to take care of us ... but people ... where do you think the government gets it's money? Nothing comes free ... someone actually has to pay all those bills. That guy you think is so rich he should be paying YOUR way? With rare exceptions, he worked just as hard for his money as I did, and as YOU SHOULD. I know everyone wants a better country with more services, but at whose expense? Veterans by the way, should receive much more than they do for keeping this country free where you CAN vote for the candidate of your choice.
I've traveled all over the world and KNOW we have it pretty good here. I've worked all my life, even though some of the jobs weren't all that great, and I never expected anyone to pay my bills. I worked hard, SAVED MY MONEY and paid my own way through college. If I can do it, anyone can!!
It just seems to me people are biting the hand that feeds them, which isn't going to get them any favors in the future. I'm sorry if your candidate lost the election, but I seriously doubt everyone's health insurance will immediately be cancelled. That's Chicken Little talking!! Did you forget about the House of Representatives and the Senate? There are checks and balances in place for a reason.
I'm totally embarrassed by the actions of those people who feel they have been cheated. Instead of looking at the glass as half empty, why not work at filling it back up. Look on the bright side ... no one can predict the future. We might just end up with an even better health insurance program. I'm pretty sure all Mexican Americans will NOT be shipped off to Mexico, but maybe services that allow for immigration will finally be greatly improved.
So STOP with all the protesting because you didn't get your way. If you seriously can't abide this government, you can always take your ball and go play in another country. I for one, will be staying here, regardless of who is President.
Exactly! Maria's Greek and parents and or grandparents came to this country, learned the language, worked hard and proudly became Americans of Greek descent. Perhaps we need to have these students spend some time serving in the military in order to get government grants and loans, they would have a total different view of things if it was so.
ReplyDeleteMake that Marcia...boy am I in trouble now...
DeleteHahaha Dave ... it's the spellcheck!!!! I'm thinking the same thing. Maybe it's time we get back to the draft, if only for one year, so they can see how tough life can really be!!!
DeleteWell said (or typed) Nancy. Completely agree with your analysis of the situation. I'm bummed by the results but they are the results. I just hope President Trump is smarter than Candidate Trump. I was thinking yesterday about the Repeal and Replace promise regarding Obamacare. The politicians have said we should repeal now and replace in the future. Can't happen, it would bankrupt the hospitals. My prediction. They will take Obamacare as we have it now, make the modifications that should have been made years ago. (And would have been had we not had such a dysfunctional Congress.) This fixed Obamacare would be called TrumpCare and a single bill will make the fixes and change the name to TrumpCare. The republicans get rid of Obamacare, the citizens get what they deserve, (a functioning system) and Mr. ego gets something else to smile about. Jim M
ReplyDeleteI've read about his ideas on health care ... even the opposition thinks he may just have the solution. Check out his website.
DeleteI couldn't agree more, Nancy. Well said.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol, and thank you for posting about the Electoral votes.
DeleteMy Grandparents, like yours, came to this country looking for a better life and not looking for a handout and learned to speak English. They never looked back and wished they had stayed in the old country. I am thankful that they made that decision to move here. I have severed our country with pride and would do so again if called upon (those are the thoughts of a 20 year old in a 70 year old body). I wish these young people had traveled the world as I did before going to college and see how bad off those countries are compared to ours. It makes me sad to think these kids going out in the street have no real idea why they are out there and what results do they expect, the election results to be reversed? These kids need to understand that we have one of the few countries in the world where they would be allowed in the streets to peacefully protest without fear of mass arrests and recriminations. Those of us that supported Trump from the beginning are still a bit apprehensive about him, but feel he was our best hope to change the course of the USA towards a better future for us all. My doctor friends are all looking forward to the modifications to Obamacare that will truly make it the system that we were promised. God Bless America.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Tom. They have no idea how good they have it. As an accountant, I'm just glad to have someone with business and budgeting knowledge in charge instead of a politician. I've read Trump's ideas on his website and think he's got some great ones. Whether they are instituted remains to be seen, but I think he's on the right track.
DeleteI think this gentleman sums it up pretty much
ReplyDeleteYou will have to cut-and-paste it though

Well said. Too bad the current generation has it so good they feel they can spit in the face of freedom. Honestly, I don't know if they are protesting just because they lost or because of the Supreme Court nominations. Lucky for them they live in a country that allows protests!!
DeleteAMEN Nancy well said.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul. I consider it a privilege to live here. People may not always like the political outcomes, but that's part of being a free country. Everyone gets to choose!!
DeleteWell said! I totally agree.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan. I suppose we should agree with their right to protest, but I just have a hard time with that. It's making them look terribly ungrateful to live in such an amazing country. Maybe they should all spend time in the military. It might change their attitudes a little.
