Oh gosh ... the Buck Moon has brought much warmer temperatures to my part of the neighborhood. This moon comes from the Native American tribes of the Northeast, particularly the Algonquin tribe. It's the time bucks begin to grow their new set of antlers, just in time to impress the ladies.
It's also called the Hay moon since this is about the time hay is harvested, or the Thunder moon since this is also Monsoon season, as shown by all the flooding in the central U.S. HERE it's just another gorgeous light in the sky. These of course are NOT my pictures.
I got home WAY too late (more on that later) and it wasn't even up yet. I could have waited, but that 17 hour day got to me. So THIS is my picture ... taken of course from my phone app. I love this Skyview App. It just makes things look so cool!
It shows you everything in the sky, including all the planets. Saturn is always pretty, along with the Satellites and Skylink. They were below the red horizon line.
So much for that stuff ... I spent the entire day waiting on this loaf of bread. After working the dough all day yesterday, along with bouts of resting and rising and letting it rise once again in the fridge, it was time for the BAKE.
Uh oh ... this one doesn't look as good as the first one. I think something went wrong somewhere along the long line. No matter ... I flipped it into the cast iron pot and baked away. Once done, they say to let it rest until completely cool before slicing.
My new fancy dancy slicer did not exactly work well. I should have bought the higher priced electric one. The slices are really too thick and I need a samurai sword at least two feet long.
The absolute WORST PART? It tastes terrible. There's no sourdough flavor at all ... just very doughy bread. What a letdown!! It seems even though I worked the starter the very same way, it didn't work. Oh wait ..... I think I forgot one tiny little thing ... the yeast!
BIG SIGH ... better luck next time girly!! If you don't use yeast, you have to let it go another week before using. Note to self: READ THE RECIPE TWICE!! No worries, I'm sure the critters will love this one!
There were no tears over the bread because I had a lodge meeting at 5:00. It turned into a four hour marathon, embarrassing two of the newer folk who got the wool pulled over their eyes because they didn't ask anyone for advice first. Sadly, that made the meeting go on and on.
The great news is that our little Elks Lodge was third in the entire nation for the Elks All American Lodge Award out of approximately 1900 lodges. That's a pretty big deal.
There was long hours of meeting before I finally got out the door ... as fast as my little feet would go.
I don't know why I was in such a hurry though ... first thing this morning I'm going to a local farming operation to set up their books on a new computer system. Yeah, that's not going to be the most fun thing I've done this month.
Before I go however, I will set up a NEW batch of starter so I don't have to wait two MORE weeks while this one cures ..... this time being sure to INCLUDE the fast start yeast. What can I say ... I'm getting OLD.
Mr. Ed said…you might want to swing over Panaderia Lula's bakery I’m sure there’ 🍞You could find a good selection

I think any bread you make at home is healthy since it only has maybe four ingredients. I'll keep at it, though it is much harder than making regular bread.
DeleteHappy Friday Nancy!
ReplyDeleteHope your day goes well.
Frances:)
Thanks Frances ... hope you temperatures don't rise too high!!
DeleteGood news for your club...that's HUGE!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great honor, that's for sure!!!
DeleteToo bad about the bread, it was looking so good! I didn't think it would even rise without yeast, but what do I know?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the club award, that is indeed a great honor!!
